EVALUATION OF COASTAL SAFETY STRUCTURES IN MITIGATING WAVE OVERTOPPING: A LABORATORY SIMULATION APPROACH

Aulia, Nur, Alham, Irawan, Paharuddin, Paharuddin
Abstract: This research evaluates the performance of coastal safety structures in mitigating wave runoff through laboratory-scale simulations. Pancana Beach in Barru Regency, South Sulawesi, was selected as the research site due to… o its vulnerability to wave-induced beach damage. To simulate wave conditions, a wave generator was designed using a 12-volt DC motor integrated into an acrylic wave bath. This research analyses the effectiveness of three types of coastal safety structures: reflectors, sea walls and sloping sea walls. Laboratory experiments measured the wave overflow volume for each type of structure under controlled conditions. The results showed that reflector-type structures achieved the highest efficiency in mitigating wave overtopping, with an average minimum overtopping value of 0.006 m³/ms. The findings emphasise the importance of selecting and designing appropriate coastal protection measures to minimise coastal erosion, protect coastal infrastructure and reduce risks to surrounding settlements. This study contributes valuable insights into the role of engineered structures in enhancing coastal resilience, especially for areas vulnerable to high wave energy.

Rifiyanti, Hafizah, Ari Kurniawan, Abdulah Rakhman
Abstract: This research addresses obstacles to effective English communication, focusing on essential language competencies—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—that are critical in global business. It explores which language… uage skills are most important for international business communication and examines the impact of language proficiency on professional success. The goal of the study is to identify these key competencies for successful global business interactions and to provide insight into which skills professionals should focus on developing. To achieve this, a systematic literature review is conducted, establishing a structured theoretical framework by drawing on findings from previous research. The study concludes that essential language competencies for global business success include verbal communication, writing skills, cross-cultural understanding, listening, and negotiation abilities. Among these, verbal skills in English, as an international language, are especially crucial in settings such as presentations, meetings, and negotiations. Effective verbal communication requires not only mastery of grammar but also the ability to use non-verbal cues, like intonation and body language, to reinforce and clarify messages. These competencies are emphasized as crucial for professionals who wish to excel in the global business landscape, where effective communication can significantly influence outcomes. The findings suggest that developing both language and cultural understanding equips professionals to engage more effectively across linguistic and cultural boundaries, enhancing their ability to negotiate, collaborate, and succeed in diverse business environments.

Rizaldy, M. Asmi, Hadist, Muhamad Khoerul
Abstract: This study looked into Sarah Sechan's use of Indonesian-English code-switching on the private-run Net TV talk show host. The study looked at the different kinds of code-switching, its purposes, and the social encouragement… nt provided by code-switching that took place during the conversation. After obtaining the data from the downloaded videos, the theories of Poplack (1980), Gumperz (1982), and Myers-Scotton (1998) were used to analyze the data. The discoveries uncovered that the three sorts of code-switching, the intra-sentential code-switching, the between sentential code-switching and the extra-sentential code-switching existed. The intra-sentential code-switching, which is thought to be the more complex of the three, was used the most frequently in verbal communication. Quote marking, addressee specification, interjections, reiteration, message qualification, personalization versus objectivization, topic switch, affective function, expressive, phatic, metalinguist, and directive were also identified as twelve functions of code-switching. Predominant was the reiteration function. In the meantime, the social triggers of code-switching were identified as the sequence unmarked choice maxim and the deference choice maxim.

PENINGKATAN LITERASI DIGITAL BAGI GURU MADRASAH ALIYAH MELALUI PELATIHAN MICROSOFT EXCEL

Yekti, Yusuf Nugroho Doyo, Kusnayat, Agus, Pamoso, Aji
Abstract: This training aims to equip teachers with the ability to prevent data processing errors with Ms Excel. The effectiveness of this training was measured by the one-group pre-test and post-test design method. We used the t-test… test to find out the difference between pre-test and post-test scores. The results showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.05). The results showed the average post-test score (mean = 7.60; SD = 1.02) increased almost twice as much as the pre-test average score (mean = 4.58; SD = 1.26). The implications of this training can be applied by teachers to process data, for example, student scores into tables or graphs, so errors are easier to detect. This information can be used to determine decisions, for example, whether a student passes a course or not.

Wijayanti, Metta
Abstract: The scarcity of petroleum resources or other fuel sources encourages efforts to find alternative energy, namely Bioethanol. Alternative raw materials that can be utilised in the manufacture of bioethanol from biomass are… re pineapple crowns. Making Bioethanol from Pineapple Fruit Crown Cayane Variety by Using Saccharomyces cerevisiae Microbes is by varying the weight of yeast and the optimum fermentation time on the level of bioethanol produced. In this study using NaOH 1.5%w to degrade the lignin content in the crown of pineapple varieties cayane and H2SO4 2%v to convert cellulose into glucose. The research used variations in yeast weight of 7.5%; 10%; 12.5%w and variations in fermentation time of 2; 3; 4; 5 days in the fermentation process. While the purification process uses simple distillation with operating conditions 78oC-80oC for 2.5 -4 hours. Bioethanol obtained was tested for refractive index and gask romatography (GC). The test results obtained the optimum weight of yeast is 12.5 grams at 3 days fermentation time with bioethanol content of 6.154%.
