OVERVIEW OF COMMUNITY STIGMA TOWARD PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS IN GORONTALO CITY

Nirwanto K. Rahim, Ita Sulistiani, Ayu Rofia Nurfadhilah
Abstract: HIV/AIDS remains a major public health concern worldwide, and stigma toward People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) continues to hinder prevention and treatment efforts, particularly in regions with limited health literacy.… In Gorontalo City, community stigma persists due to misconceptions about HIV transmission, exaggerated fears, and culturally embedded moral judgments that associate HIV with deviant behavior. This study aims to describe the level of community stigma toward PLWHA in Liluwo Village and identify factors contributing to these attitudes. Using an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design, the study involved 185 respondents selected through stratified random sampling. A structured questionnaire assessed respondents’ HIV/AIDS knowledge, religiosity, and stigmatizing attitudes. The findings reveal that 102 respondents (55.1%) demonstrated stigmatizing behaviors, characterized by avoidance of physical contact, reluctance to live near PLWHA, fear of sharing public spaces, and inaccurate beliefs about how HIV is transmitted. Meanwhile, 83 respondents (44.9%) exhibited no stigma, showing higher levels of HIV-related knowledge, a better understanding of scientific facts about transmission, and a more empathetic and inclusive approach toward PLWHA. The variation between these groups highlights the crucial role of health literacy, cultural norms, and access to accurate information in shaping community attitudes. The study concludes that reducing stigma requires comprehensive and continuous educational interventions, targeted health promotion, and active involvement of community and religious leaders to build a more supportive environment for PLWHA. Strengthening public understanding is essential to ensure equitable treatment and improve the well-being of those affected by HIV.

A PLISSIT-BASED COMPREHENSIVE SEXUAL EDUCATION INTERVENTION ON ATTITUDES TOWARDS HIV TRANSMISSION PREVENTION IN ADOLESCENTS: A GENDER EQUALITY PERSPECTIVE

Nirwanto K. Rahim, Erwin Purwanto
Abstract: Adolescents are a vulnerable group to the risks of sexual violence and HIV transmission due to limited sexual literacy, insufficient access to accurate reproductive health information, and strong socio-cultural taboos surrounding… rrounding sexuality. Comprehensive interventions are needed to equip adolescents with adequate knowledge, attitudes, and gender-sensitive decision-making skills. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of a PLISSIT-based Comprehensive Sexual Education intervention in improving adolescents’ attitudes toward HIV transmission prevention from a gender equality perspective. This quasi-experimental study involved 100 students selected through simple random sampling and divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received four PLISSIT-based educational sessions integrating gender equality principles, while the control group received conventional sexual education. Data were collected using pre- and post-test questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed a substantial improvement in adolescents’ attitudes after the intervention. Prior to the intervention, only 18% of students demonstrated good attitudes toward HIV prevention, while 82% were categorized as poor. After the intervention, 90% of students in the experimental group showed good attitudes, and only 10% remained in the poor category, with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.001). These findings indicate that the PLISSIT-based comprehensive sexual education model is effective in shaping positive attitudes by providing a safe space for discussion, relevant information, and gender-responsive guidance. In conclusion, the PLISSIT-based intervention significantly enhances adolescents’ attitudes toward HIV prevention and can serve as a strategic approach in school-based reproductive health education.

Abstract: The background of this research is based on the need to improve the quality of education and the demand for teacher professionalism in facing the dynamic challenges of school management. At SMK Negeri 1 Majalengka, the effectiveness… ffectiveness of the principal’s leadership and the quality of internal communication are considered two important factors that may play a strategic role in enhancing teacher performance. These conditions highlight the need for empirical analysis to determine the extent to which these two aspects contribute to the achievement of teacher performance. This study aims to examine the description of principal leadership, internal communication, and teacher performance at SMK Negeri 1 Majalengka, as well as to analyze the influence of principal leadership on teacher performance, the influence of internal communication on teacher performance, and the influence of both variables on teacher performance. Thus, this research not only describes the actual conditions but also tests the relationships between the variables under study. The research employed descriptive and correlational methods. The study population consisted of all 141 teachers at SMK Negeri 1 Majalengka. The sample was determined using the Slovin formula, resulting in 104 respondents selected through proportional sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire that had undergone validity and reliability testing. Data analysis was carried out to determine the strength of the relationships between variables and to test the research hypotheses. The results indicate that principal leadership falls into the very competent category, internal communication is carried out high effectively, and teacher performance is categorized as very high. Correlational analysis findings show that principal leadership (X₁) has a significant influence on teacher performance, and internal communication (X₂) also has a significant influence on teacher performance. Simultaneously, both independent variables have a meaningful effect on improving teacher performance at SMK Negeri 1 Majalengka. The implications of this study show that improving teacher performance can be achieved through strengthening principal leadership and implementing effective internal communication. Abstract: Stunting remains a major public health issue in Pesisir Selatan Regency, where the prevalence reached 29.8% in 2023, affecting children’s physical growth and cognitive development. This study aimed to analyze the association… iation between maternal characteristics (parity, maternal age during pregnancy, age at marriage, birth spacing, education level, occupation, and exclusive breastfeeding) and family income with stunting among children under five. A cross-sectional design was employed involving 30 mothers of young children selected from the working area of Kayu Gadang Public Health Center. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and anthropometric measurements, and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that 66.7% of the children were stunted. Maternal characteristics—including parity, maternal age during pregnancy, age at marriage, birth spacing, educational level, and occupation—were not significantly associated with stunting (p>0.05). Significant associations were found between exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.019) and family income (p=0.026) with stunting. Children from families earning below the regional minimum wage and those not exclusively breastfed were more likely to be stunted. In conclusion, exclusive breastfeeding and family income are significant predictors of stunting. Therefore, interventions should emphasize improving exclusive breastfeeding practices and strengthening economic support for at-risk families. These findings are expected to guide evidence-based stunting prevention strategies in Pesisir Selatan Regency.
