STRENGTHENING ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILL: ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING PROGRAMME BASED ON CONTEXTUAL TEACHING AND LEARNING FOR THE YOUNG GENERATION OF TEGAL ISLAND

Andriyaningsih, Ayu, MS, Vike Aprilianin, Sutiyono, Sutiyono
Abstract: This community service program aimed to enhance the English language skills of elementary school students on Tegal Island, Lampung Province, through the implementation of a Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach.… . Limited English proficiency among local children has long hindered effective communication with foreign visitors and restricted opportunities for community-based tourism development. To address this challenge, the program incorporated basic English vocabulary related to the beach environment into interactive activities, such as songs, games, visual aids, and direct exploration of local surroundings. These methods were designed to provide authentic, engaging, and memorable language learning experiences tailored to the learners’ environment. A pre-test and post-test design was employed to evaluate the program’s effectiveness. The results demonstrated a substantial improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery, with mean scores rising from 61.36 on the pre-test to 89.73 on the post-test. Statistical analysis using a paired sample t-test revealed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), confirming that CTL significantly enhanced vocabulary acquisition. The normalized gain (N-Gain) indicated a high level of progress among participants, showing consistent improvement across all learners. Beyond cognitive gains, qualitative observations indicated that students exhibited greater confidence, motivation, and environmental awareness as they linked English lessons to familiar contexts. This program illustrates that CTL offers a practical, low-cost, and highly effective strategy for empowering youth in remote island communities. By contextualizing English instruction in real-life settings, CTL not only fosters academic achievement but also supports community engagement, cultural pride, and sustainable human resource development in rural tourism areas.

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the role of Instagram as a digital marketing communication medium in promoting the Tajur Katineung natural tourist attraction, and to identify the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in… supporting this marketing strategy. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data were collected through direct observation of the Instagram account @tajurkatineung, digital insight documentation, and literature studies related to digital marketing, social media, and AI. The results show that Instagram has a strategic role in increasing the visibility and appeal of Tajur Katineung through its feed, story, and reels features. However, its utilization is still less than optimal in terms of content strategy, branding consistency, and audience engagement. AI technology is considered to have great potential in analyzing audience behavior and content effectiveness in real-time. Unfortunately, the use of AI is still very limited due to the lack of digital literacy among managers. From a media communication perspective, the @tajurkatineung account shows potential as a two-way media that allows direct interaction with the audience and forms a positive perception of the local tourist destination. This study recommends increasing the digital capacity of managers through training in the use of AI and content strategy, as well as collaboration with influencers and the use of Instagram Ads. This research provides theoretical contributions to the study of digital communication and social media-based marketing, as well as practical benefits for tourism actors in optimizing destination promotion strategies with the support of digital technology.

S.A.N Diah Ratnasari Warassaty, Prasetya, Didik, Nyoman Sudarma
Abstract: The rising prevalence of obesity in Indonesia contributes to increased risk of metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Body Mass Index (BMI) is commonly used to assess nutritional status and may be correlated with… long-term blood glucose levels measured by Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). This study aimed to explore the relationship between BMI and HbA1c levels in patients at Prima Medika General Hospital, Denpasar. A cross-sectional analytic observational design was employed, involving 30 purposively selected respondents. BMI was calculated from weight and height measurements, while HbA1c levels were assessed using the immunoturbidimetric method. Results showed an even distribution of respondents in the normal and overweight BMI categories (each 46.5%), while 50% had HbA1c levels >8%. However, Pearson correlation analysis indicated no statistically significant relationship between BMI and HbA1c levels (p=0.982; r=-0.004). The study concludes that BMI does not have a linear correlation with HbA1c levels. Other factors such as type and duration of therapy, disease progression, and patient adherence may play a greater role in influencing glycemic control and should be further investigated.
