IMPLEMENTATION OF SCHOOL BOARDING SERVICE QUALITY ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AT ISLAMIC JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS IN RIAU ISLANDS PROVINCE

Sofwatillah, Sofwatillah, Anwar, Kasful, MY, Mahmud, Asrulla
Abstract: Education is a fundamental pillar in shaping a superior and character-driven generation, with boarding schools providing a unique 24-hour integrated learning and living environment that acts in loco parentis. This study… examines the implementation of service quality in Islamic boarding schools in the Riau Islands Province and its influence on academic achievement, focusing on SMPIT Assakinah Tanjung Pinang, SMPS Al-Himmah Karimun, and SMP BP Tahfidz Attaubah Batam. Service quality in this context is defined as a student-centered paradigm that integrates academic, pastoral, and social dimensions. Drawing on perspectives from Crosby, Sallis, and Brewster, quality is measured by responsiveness to needs, continuous improvement, and the integration of academic rigor, pastoral care, and co-curricular enrichment. Academic achievement, as described by Bloom, is shaped by cognitive, affective, and environmental factors, where the structured environment of boarding schools can maximize outcomes. This research employed a qualitative case study approach with data gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation, analyzed using an interactive model. Findings reveal that service quality is implemented through four stages: (1) conceptualization with a vision integrating national and diniyah curricula; (2) implementation involving active learning, dormitory services, extracurricular programs, and Islamic character building; (3) improvement via SWOT-based evaluation, facility upgrades, teacher development, and digitalization; and (4) continuous evaluation for relevance and effectiveness. The study concludes that comprehensive, integrated service quality is a decisive factor for success in boarding schools. Effective service quality fosters both academic achievement and the development of religious, independent, and morally sound students. By applying Total Quality Management principles, Islamic boarding schools can establish an optimal educational ecosystem, producing a superior and globally competitive generation rooted in Islamic values.

STRENGTHENING ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILL: ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING PROGRAMME BASED ON CONTEXTUAL TEACHING AND LEARNING FOR THE YOUNG GENERATION OF TEGAL ISLAND

Andriyaningsih, Ayu, MS, Vike Aprilianin, Sutiyono, Sutiyono
Abstract: This community service program aimed to enhance the English language skills of elementary school students on Tegal Island, Lampung Province, through the implementation of a Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach.… . Limited English proficiency among local children has long hindered effective communication with foreign visitors and restricted opportunities for community-based tourism development. To address this challenge, the program incorporated basic English vocabulary related to the beach environment into interactive activities, such as songs, games, visual aids, and direct exploration of local surroundings. These methods were designed to provide authentic, engaging, and memorable language learning experiences tailored to the learners’ environment. A pre-test and post-test design was employed to evaluate the program’s effectiveness. The results demonstrated a substantial improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery, with mean scores rising from 61.36 on the pre-test to 89.73 on the post-test. Statistical analysis using a paired sample t-test revealed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), confirming that CTL significantly enhanced vocabulary acquisition. The normalized gain (N-Gain) indicated a high level of progress among participants, showing consistent improvement across all learners. Beyond cognitive gains, qualitative observations indicated that students exhibited greater confidence, motivation, and environmental awareness as they linked English lessons to familiar contexts. This program illustrates that CTL offers a practical, low-cost, and highly effective strategy for empowering youth in remote island communities. By contextualizing English instruction in real-life settings, CTL not only fosters academic achievement but also supports community engagement, cultural pride, and sustainable human resource development in rural tourism areas.

Abstract: Arabic in the Generation Z era faces significant learning changes along with the development of digital technology and the unique characteristics of this generation known as digital natives . This study aims to identify… challenges and opportunities in the Arabic language learning process among Gen Z using a literature review approach to various recent studies. The research method uses a literature review by reviewing 30 articles in several published national journals. The results of the study indicate that the main challenges include low digital literacy among educators, limited technological infrastructure, and the dominance of traditional learning methods that are less attractive to Gen Z. However, on the other hand, there are great opportunities through the use of technology such as social media, interactive learning applications, gamification, and blended learning approaches that can increase motivation and learning participation. This study recommends the need for curriculum development that is adaptive to the needs of Gen Z, digital competency training for teachers, and the integration of digital media that is relevant to the learning styles of the younger generation. By utilizing existing opportunities, Arabic language learning can be more contextual, interesting, and effective for today's generation

Abstract: The objective of this research was to prove whether using Choral Reading strategy can improve reading comprehension of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 13 Palu. This research limited the use of Choral Reading strategy… egy in improving students' reading comprehension, which focuses on literal meaning and descriptive text. This research used quasi-experimental research design involving an experimental class and a control class. The sample of this research were students of VII B as the experimental class, which consisted of 31 students, and the students of VIII A as the control class, which consisted of 31 students. The data was collected through pre-test and post-test. The results confirmed that the mean score of the experimental class had increased from 44.87 to 73.83. On the other hand, in the control class, it has increased from 48.29 to 62.64. The results of the test were analyzed statistically by applying 0.05 level of significance. The researcher found that the value of the t-count was higher than the t-table (4.59 > 1.67). In other words, the implementation of choral reading strategy can develop students' reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 13 Palu. This strategy has a significant impact on the English learning process, especially helping students in reading comprehension to find information about the text and understand the entire meaning of the text, so that students can practice choral reading as their independent reading comprehension strategy in the future
