his research approach is qualitative by utilizing ethnographic data, archival studies, ritual documentation, and in-depth interviews with ritual practitioners. The use of the Quran, which was originally a sacred Islamic text with normative content, has undergone a transformation of meaning when adapted into traditional Javanese rites. The process of cultural acculturation that occurred illustrates the dynamics between ancestral traditions and Islamic values, which provide space for the reinterpretation of religious symbols by local communities (Anderson, 2003; Suryadi, 2011). The historical analysis method and the theory of cultural transformation proposed by Clifford Geertz are used to explain the evolution of the use of the sacred text and highlight the role of ritual as a medium for negotiating meaning between cultures. The results of the study show that the insertion of Quranic verses into Javanese mantras not only functions as a sacred element, but also as a tool for social legitimacy and cultural identity of the Javanese people. This finding opens up opportunities for further study on the integrative role of ritual in shaping religious and cultural identity in Indonesia.
This study aims to analyze the content of exercises and questions representing higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in the Mathematics textbook for grade VII junior high school published by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology as teaching materials for the Independent Curriculum. Anifarka & Rosnawati (2023) stated that a quality textbook should be able to facilitate students' cognitive development in line with the established learning outcomes. The method applied in this study is content analysis with a qualitative descriptive approach. The analysis instrument refers to the cognitive dimensions C4 (Analyzing), C5 (Evaluating), and C6 (Creating) based on the revised Bloom's taxonomy by Anderson & Krathwohl (2001). The research findings indicate that of a total of 485 questions and activities spread across six chapters, 147 items (30.31%) are classified as HOTS. The highest HOTS distribution was found in Chapter 5 on Linear Equations and Inequalities with One Variable (38.46%), while the lowest was in Chapter 1 on Numbers (22.80%). The most dominant cognitive level is C4-Analyzing (58.50%), followed by C5-Evaluating (28.57%), and C6-Creating (12.93%). This finding indicates that the Independent Curriculum textbooks have integrated HOTS more systematically than the previous curriculum (Fanani, 2018), although the proportion needs to be increased to meet the demands of 21st-century learning.
Abstract:The research takes an insight look into the complicated representation of love, using the short story of The Dumb Man by Sherwood Anderson within the existentialism framework. The deaf and mute protagonist becomes a metaphor…
phor for the universal human condition in his search for love and communication amidst a society that cares less. In his tacit quest for love, Anderson exemplifies an existentialist perspective: Love is not a desire—one feels—but a highly conscious effort to assert one's existence in reality, both freely chosen and constrained by society. This analysis is conducted through qualitative method and explorative approach in unpacking meaning from the narrative, with the contention that hopes for love functions as a central vehicle for self-transformation. It is in this quest for love that this story wrestles through the tension of aloneness with man's need to connect, representative of the complex, intertwined relationship between individual independence and the world outside. Ultimately, through this story, how it unfolds existentialism culminates into the relentless, sometimes painful pursuit of love—thereby bringing out the core role of existentialism in the journey towards self-actualization and insight into the human condition.
