CORRELATIONS BETWEEN FERRITIN LEVELS AND CREATININE IN PEDIATRIC THALASSEMIA PATIENTS PRODIA CILEGON

Prihatiningsih, Diah Prihatiningsih, Ulfianjani, Ni Komang Ayu Resiyanthi
Abstract: Thalassemia is a blood disorder that is passed down genetically from parents to their children. The body cannot form normal red blood cells resulting in them being damaged easily and having a short life of less than 120… days and anemia, requiring continuous blood transfusions to maintain hemoglobin levels in the body. A history of repeated blood transfusions can cause excess iron in the body which is characterized by an increase in serum ferritin levels which can cause damage to kidney function by looking at creatinine levels. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between ferritin and creatinine levels in children with thalassemia. This study used a quantitative method with a cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used in this study was the total sampling technique. The sample used was 12 samples. Data processing in this study used the Shapiro-Wilk Normality test and the Pearson Correlation test in bivariate analysis. The results of the analysis of this study indicate that there is no significant relationship between the ferritin and creatinine levels in children with thalassemia where the value of Sig. 0.212 > 0.05 (p> 0.05), and shows a significant negative correlation of -0.389. This study in thalassemia children had high ferrtin levels but creatinine levels were still within normal limits.

Pengaruh Konsumsi Tablet Tambah Darah terhadap Kadar Hemoglobin (Hb) saat Menstruasi pada Remaja Putri di SMK Maesan

Ikromatul Hasanah, Riska Faraswati, Suhartin
Abstract: Menstruation is a physiological process that can cause regular iron loss in adolescent girls, thereby potentially reducing hemoglobin levels and increasing the risk of anemia if not balanced with adequate iron intake. The… e research problem focuses on whether the consumption of iron supplementation tablets affects hemoglobin levels during menstruation among adolescent girls at SMK Maesan. This study aims to analyze the effect of iron supplementation on changes in hemoglobin levels using a quasi-experimental design with a control group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 30 respondents selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Hemoglobin levels were measured using the cyanmethemoglobin or Sahli method, accompanied by standard procedures for administering iron supplements. The results of the Wilcoxon statistical test showed a p-value of 0.000 with α<0.05, indicating that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted, meaning that there was a significant effect of iron supplementation on increasing hemoglobin levels during menstruation. These findings confirm that the intervention of iron supplementation is effective in improving hemoglobin levels in menstruating adolescent girls. The novelty of this study lies in emphasizing the effectiveness of controlled iron supplementation interventions among vocational high school adolescents using a pretest-posttest approach, thereby providing practical contributions to anemia prevention efforts from an early age through structured and sustainable school health programs.

Strategies for Reducing and Preventing Anemia in Pregnant Women: Systematic Literature Review

Isabelita Madeira Soares, Artur Natalino Corte Real Araújo, Natalia Pereira
Abstract: Anemia in pregnant women is a serious health problem with negative impacts on the health of the mother and fetus. The aim of this research is to conduct a literature review on strategies for reducing and preventing anemia… a in pregnant women. This study used the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to collect and evaluate 20 relevant articles regarding strategies for reducing and preventing anemia in pregnant women. A literature search was conducted through various databases and articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected for analysis. The main finding of this literature review is that several effective strategies have been identified for the reduction and prevention of anemia in pregnant women, including iron and folic acid supplementation, dietary changes, regular check-ups, health education, and community-based awareness campaigns. Factors such as public awareness, supportive health policies, and easy access to health services play an important role in supporting the successful implementation of these strategies. However, there are also obstacles such as limited access and resources, non-compliance, and cultural challenges that can hinder efforts to prevent anemia. The conclusion of this research is that strategies for reducing and preventing anemia in pregnant women require a holistic approach involving various aspects, including strengthening health services, targeted health education, and cross-sector collaboration. By implementing appropriate recommendations, it is hoped that a significant reduction in the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women can be achieved and improve the overall health of mothers and fetuses.
