Susanto, Muh. Asra’ul Khairi, Astuty, Sri, Syafri, Muhammad, Andriani, Shadry, Bado, Basri
Abstract: Poverty remains one of the major development challenges in South Sulawesi, particularly in regencies with relatively high poverty rates. This study aims to examine the effects of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth,… owth, educational attainment, and the open unemployment rate on poverty across nine regencies in South Sulawesi during the 2016–2025 period. This research employed a quantitative approach using panel data obtained from the Statistics Indonesia. The research sample consisted of nine regencies that consistently recorded high poverty rates, namely Selayar Islands Regency, Jeneponto Regency, Pangkajene and Islands Regency, Bone Regency, Enrekang Regency, Luwu Regency, Tana Toraja Regency, North Luwu Regency, and North Toraja Regency. The analytical method applied was panel data regression using the Common Effect Model (CEM), Fixed Effect Model (FEM), and Random Effect Model (REM), with the optimal model selected through the Chow test and Hausman test. The findings reveal that GRDP growth has a negative effect on poverty, educational attainment has a negative and statistically significant effect on poverty, whereas the open unemployment rate has a positive effect on poverty. Simultaneously, GRDP growth, educational attainment, and the open unemployment rate significantly influence poverty in South Sulawesi. These findings suggest that poverty alleviation policies should prioritize equitable economic growth, improvements in educational quality, and the expansion of productive employment opportunities.

Determinants of Rice Consumption in South Sulawesi With A Panel Data Approach

Rahman, Abdul
Abstract: This study aims to analyze the factors that affect rice consumption in South Sulawesi Province using a panel data approach for 2018–2024. The dependent variables used are rice consumption (tons), while the independent variables… variables include per capita income, household size, rice production, human development index (HDI), and percentage of poor population. The analysis was performed with a panel data regression model using R software, with a series of model specification tests including the Chow test, the Hausman test, and the Lagrange Multiplier (LM) test. The best model obtained is the Fixed Effect Model (FEM). Partially, the variables of household size and rice production had a significant negative effect on rice consumption, while HDI had a significant positive effect. The variables of per capita income and poverty level have a negative but not significant effect. These results indicate that rice consumption in South Sulawesi is more influenced by social aspects and quality of life than purely economic factors. These findings affirm the importance of food security policies that focus on improving human development, rice distribution efficiency, and strengthening social protection programs to maintain the stability of household food consumption.

The Strategic Role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in Poverty Reduction among Rural Communities

Hasbiah, Sitti
Abstract: The problem of poverty is still the main challenge for development in rural areas of Indonesia. Limited employment opportunities and low access to productive economic activities cause some village communities to be economically… mically vulnerable. One of the sectors that is considered to have great potential in reducing poverty levels is Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This article aims to conceptually examine the role of MSMEs in efforts to reduce poverty in rural communities by taking the context of Bantaeng Regency. The writing method uses a qualitative-descriptive approach through literature studies of scientific journals, reference books, and relevant official government documents published in the last five years. The results of the study show that MSMEs play a role as a driver of the local economy through the creation of job opportunities, increasing household income, and strengthening the economic independence of communities based on local potential. However, the development of MSMEs in rural areas is still faced with various structural obstacles, such as limited capital, low managerial capacity of business actors, and limited market access. Therefore, policy support and cross-stakeholder synergy are needed to optimize the role of MSMEs as an instrument to reduce poverty in rural areas

Lucius Adrianus Mada Kewuren, Magdalena Tulin Jawan

BRIDGING THEORY AND PRACTICE IN ISLAMIC ECONOMICS: A PRISMA-BASED SYSTEMATIC REVIEW ON ZAKAT, WAQF, AND ISLAMIC SOCIAL FINANCE FOR WELFARE ENHANCEMENT

Ekawaty, Marlina, Hanafiansyah, Mochammad Rizki
Abstract: Islamic economics operates as a normative framework prioritizing social justice, equitable wealth redistribution, and collective wellbeing. Despite its robust philosophical foundations, empirical consensus regarding how… these tenets translate into measurable welfare outcomes across heterogeneous developing nations remains highly fragmented. This study addresses this critical gap by executing a systematic literature review guided by the PRISMA 2020 statement to synthesize empirical evidence on the operationalization of Zakat, Waqf, and Islamic Social Finance (ISF) as structural instruments for poverty reduction. Departing from traditional descriptive reviews, this paper introduces an original analytical taxonomy that maps the operational mechanics of ISF against micro-level and macro-level development outcomes. Based on a rigorous multi-stage screening of peer-reviewed empirical studies published between 2020 and 2025 across emerging economies, a final synthesized sample of $n = 10$ high-quality primary articles was evaluated. The qualitative narrative synthesis reveals that integrated ISF instruments exert a structurally positive impact on poverty alleviation, income optimization, and socio-economic empowerment, particularly when embedded within digital financial ecosystems and formal financial inclusion frameworks. However, the analysis uncovers substantial outcome heterogeneity, demonstrating that welfare efficacy is highly conditional upon institutional governance quality, targeting accuracy, and localized implementation designs. The structural novelty of this research lies in its empirical crystallization of the explicit boundary conditions under which normative faith-based capital successfully disrupts poverty traps, offering an evidence-based operational blueprint for policymakers and Sharia social institutions in the Global South.
