Abstract:This research is designed to examine how students use both denotative and connotative meanings in their everyday utterances within the campus environment. In daily communication, students do not rely solely on literal meanings;…
anings; instead, their language often conveys implied messages shaped by context, cultural background, and patterns of social interaction. To explore this phenomenon, the study applies a qualitative descriptive approach, focusing on naturally occurring conversations among students in various campus settings. Data were collected through careful observation and documentation of students’ spoken interactions, allowing for an in-depth understanding of how meaning is constructed in real-life situations. The results indicate that students actively employ both denotative and connotative meanings in their speech. However, connotative meanings appear more dominant, particularly in informal contexts such as casual conversations with peers. This tendency highlights the role of language as a flexible and dynamic tool for expression. Furthermore, the frequent use of connotative language demonstrates students’ creativity in conveying ideas, emotions, and attitudes. It also reflects how language functions as a marker of social identity, helping students build relationships and express group belonging within the academic community.
Abstract:This study investigates the formation and sustenance of a Green Organizational Culture within Islamic schools, focusing on the pivotal role of teachers' akhlak (ethical character) and their exemplary behavior (qudwah hasanah)…
anah) as the primary drivers. A Green Organizational Culture is defined as a shared set of values, beliefs, and practices that prioritize environmental stewardship, sustainability, and ecological responsibility as integral to the school's identity and daily operations. Employing an ethnographic case study approach, this research was conducted at two Islamic secondary schools recognized for their proactive environmental programs. Data were gathered through prolonged observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of school artifacts. Findings reveal that teacher akhlak—manifested as personal environmental mindfulness, consistency between words and actions, and moral motivation rooted in Islamic teachings—is the cornerstone for authentic cultural change. Teachers who embody green values act as transformative agents, legitimizing environmental norms, inspiring student imitation, and embedding sustainability into the hidden curriculum. The study concludes that institutional green policies are insufficient without the cultivation of akhlak-based environmental ethics among educators. It proposes a model of "Akhlak-Based Eco-Pedagogy" for teacher development.
Abstract:This study aims to deepen the understanding of the contribution of promotion and branding to increasing customer satisfaction at PT. Ino Wangsa Binjai. The study used primary data with a population of 300 buyers, and 75…
respondents were selected as samples through calculations using the Slovin formula. The analysis techniques applied were quantitative, including validity tests, reliability, classical assumptions, simple linear regression, and hypothesis testing through t-tests and coefficients of determination (R²). Based on the analysis results, the promotional mix variable (E_Prmsi) obtained a t-count value of -1.824 with a significance level of 0.072 (> 0.05), while the t-table was 1.99346. Because the t-count is smaller than the t-table, it can be concluded that the promotional mix does not have a significant effect on customer satisfaction. In addition, a negative t-value indicates that the direction of the relationship between the promotional mix and customer satisfaction is not in line. Conversely, the partial test shows that the company's brand variable has a significant effect on customer satisfaction with a significance value of 0.00 (< 0.05). Therefore, the first hypothesis (H1) is declared accepted. From the results of the determination coefficient test, the R Square value is 0.495, which indicates that 49.5% of changes in customer satisfaction can be explained by the company's promotional mix and brand factors, while the remaining 50.5% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study. As a recommendation, the management of PT. Ino Wangsa Binjai, especially the branch manager, is advised to implement a more cost-effective, efficient, and targeted promotional strategy, as well as utilizing social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and print media such as newspapers to convey promotional information more effectively.
Abstract:Lingga Village in Karo Regency, North Sumatra, is a cultural village that preserves the traditional architecture of the Karo people, particularly the Siwaluh Jabu traditional house, which reflects the community’s life philosophy,…
philosophy, social order, and spirituality. The surrounding environment of these traditional houses remains poorly organized, with vacant land left unmanaged and declining awareness of cultural preservation, resulting in suboptimal utilization of the area’s aesthetic value, cultural function, and tourism potential. This community service program aims to arrange a cultural garden around the traditional houses while empowering the local community to manage the cultural landscape in a sustainable manner, with a focus on preserving cultural identity, improving environmental quality, and strengthening the local economy through the development of cultural tourism and agrotourism. The implementation method adopts a community-based participatory approach, carried out through several stages: site observation and mapping, focus group discussions, planning and designing the cultural garden, training and knowledge transfer, collective implementation of garden arrangement, as well as evaluation and documentation. The garden design integrates the orientation of the Siwaluh Jabu house, the cosmological meaning of space, ecological landscape principles, and the selection of local vegetation with symbolic, aesthetic, and economic value, organized into aesthetic, educational, and productive zones. The results of the program indicate the establishment of a well-arranged cultural garden rich in Karo cultural symbols, increased community capacity and participation, and the creation of a sustainable cultural landscape management model that functions as a “living laboratory” combining aesthetic, educational, economic, and spiritual roles. This model positions the community as the main actor and holds potential to be replicated in other cultural villages with similar characteristics.
Abstract:This study explores the cultural practice of fangirling on social media platform X as a space for identity negotiation and communal solidarity in the digital era. Using a digital ethnography approach, data was collected…
through participant observation, in-depth interviews with fans, and a documentary study of the digital footprints of the informants. The results show that fangirling is not merely a form of passive consumption, but rather a communal cultural activity carried out massively and organized through fictitious kinship structures in cyberspace. This phenomenon manifests itself in the form of digital "work culture," such as the ritual of collectively streaming music and mobilizing votes to increase the symbolic capital of the idol group SEVENTEEN on the global stage. This practice confirms a shift in social interaction patterns, where group loyalty is bound by a commitment to the idol's aesthetics and achievements. Anthropologically, this activity creates a new value system that blurs the boundaries between the private space of fans and the digital public space, while simultaneously strengthening the position of social media platform X as a primary locus in the formation of contemporary popular culture.
Abstract:The research findings indicate that community participation from Duawutun and Wuakerong villages in the Hape Nulif tradition extends beyond mere physical presence, manifesting as structured and active involvement throughout…
out every stage of the ritual. The community demonstrates a high spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation), reflected in the clear distribution of roles among traditional leaders, youth figures, and women. This collective cooperation encompasses everything from ritual logistical preparations to the execution of core processions, which directly strengthens social cohesion and solidarity among residents. Substantially, this tradition serves as a space for articulating local cultural identity, bridging material and spiritual dimensions where reverence for ancestors and nature remains a central value. The intergenerational distribution of responsibilities ensures that every community member feels a profound sense of belonging toward the preservation of this local wisdom. Consequently, the Hape Nulif ritual becomes a crucial instrument in bolstering cultural resilience amidst modernization, while reaffirming the position of the Duawutun community as one that steadfastly upholds noble human values and togetherness within a sacred traditional framework.
Abstract:This article examines gender identity within a metaphysical framework by exploring the tension between essentialist and social constructivist paradigms. The core issue addressed in this research is the absence of a conceptual…
ptual framework capable of reconciling these two traditionally opposing approaches. Essentialism regards gender as a fixed, inherent attribute, whereas constructivism emphasizes that gender is shaped by social and cultural practices. The aim of this study is to formulate a hybrid metaphysical model that integrates both perspectives through dialectical synthesis. The methodology employed involves a philosophical literature review with thematic analysis of works published within the last five years. Findings reveal that a relationally grounded hybrid model successfully merges the strengths of both paradigms, offering a more inclusive and applicable approach for social policy development. This model is viewed as critical for advancing academic discourse while also providing a robust philosophical foundation for the recognition and protection of gender diversity in contemporary society.
Abstract:This study discusses the adaptation strategies of non-Muslim MSMEs to halal certification regulations in Manado City from the perspective of Maqasid al-Syari'ah. This is a qualitative study. The research design is field…
research. The informants in this study consisted of MUI officials in North Sulawesi Province and non-Muslim MSME actors in Manado City. The results of this study indicate that: Non-Muslim SME actors have demonstrated a high level of adaptation to halal certification regulations through gradual and pragmatic strategies. They began by improving hygiene, recording raw materials, and participating in training and capacity-building programs. These strategies reflect that the actors do not reject the regulations but require an approach tailored to their capacities. In many cases, halal certification is even positioned as a branding tool and a means of market expansion, rather than merely legal compliance. This adaptation also reflects the success of a values-based approach rooted in the principles of maqasid, where regulations are accepted as meaningful and beneficial ethical business practices. Through a dialogic and contextual approach, non-Muslim SME operators have successfully transformed halal certification into an opportunity rather than a threat to their identity.

Abstract:This study aims to determine the role of mothers as agents of masculinity enculturation for Nias ethnic boys. This study uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, data collected through participatory observation,…
vation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of Nias ethnic mothers and boys. The results show that the role of mothers as agents of masculinity enculturation in Nias ethnic boys in Tegal Sari Mandala II Village emphasizes the instilling of masculine values through daily care that is appropriate to the context of urban life. Mothers instill the value of courage by accustoming children to dare to speak, appear, and defend the truth, while building strength through emotional control and assertiveness to be able to face pressure, develop resilience through independence, discipline, and adaptability, and teach leadership through responsibility, decision-making, and the application of traditional leadership values such as si'ulu and si'ila. The main challenges faced by mothers include the stubbornness of children, the limited role without a husband figure for single parents, and the negative influence of social media and diverse urban environments. Mothers make various efforts to overcome these obstacles by implementing a firm but loving parenting style, providing motivation when children experience failure, and involving other male family members such as uncles or church members to provide advice. The implementation of traditional Nias ethnic masculinity values is still attempted through oral narratives, the use of digital technology to demonstrate the Fahombo (Stone Jumping) tradition, and the involvement of boys to attend and witness various Nias ethnic traditions in urban areas to maintain their ethnic identity amidst modernity
