A Literature Review On The Use Of Songs In Teaching English To Young Learners: Benefits And Difficulties

Abstract: This paper contains a comprehensive literature review on the use of songs in teaching English to young learners. This paper reviews the concept of teaching English to young learners, and then discusses the benefits and difficulties… ifficulties in using songs and how songs should be implemented in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. A number of previous studies from 2008 to 2015 investigating the use of songs in teaching English have been analysed. Most of the studies used in this research are empirical studies. It is found that the benefits of songs to teach English can be classified into four categories: (1) affective; (2) cognitive; (3) linguistic; and (4) culture. This review presents a better understanding on the benefits and difficulties of using songs to teach English to young learners. It can be argued that teaching English songs to young learners is prominent. At the end, the author outlines several recommendations regarding on how to overcome the difficulties in teaching songs so the use of songs in teaching can be maximised.

Artikel tersebut berpendapat… erpendapat bahwa reformasi kurikulum sangat penting bagi sistem pendidikan Indonesia untuk memenuhi kebutuhan siswanya dan mempersiapkan mereka menghadapi tantangan abad ke-21. Sistem pendidikan Indonesia menghadapi beberapa tantangan, khususnya di bidang kurikulum. Salah satu permasalahan utamanya adalah tidak adanya keselarasan antara kurikulum dan kebutuhan tenaga kerja, sehingga terjadi ketidaksesuaian antara keterampilan yang diajarkan di sekolah dengan yang dibutuhkan oleh pasar tenaga kerja. Selain itu, sistem pendidikan telah dikritik karena penekanannya yang berat pada hafalan dan hafalan, yang dipandang sebagai penghalang pengembangan pemikiran kritis dan keterampilan pemecahan masalah di kalangan siswa. Untuk mengatasi tantangan tersebut dan meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan di Indonesia, telah dilakukan berbagai upaya untuk mereformasi kurikulum selama bertahun-tahun. Reformasi kurikulum terbaru, Kurikulum 2013, bertujuan untuk meningkatkan relevansi kurikulum dengan kebutuhan dunia kerja, mempromosikan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan pemecahan masalah, serta membekali siswa dengan keterampilan yang dibutuhkan untuk abad ke-21. Namun, penerapan Kurikulum baru menghadapi beberapa tantangan, termasuk pelatihan guru yang tidak memadai, kurangnya sumber daya, dan penolakan dari pemangku kepentingan. Artikel ini diakhiri dengan menyoroti perlunya upaya berkelanjutan untuk memastikan keberhasilan penerapan Kurikulum baru dan memaksimalkan potensi dampaknya terhadap kualitas pendidikan di Indonesia.    Abstract This article provides an overview of the history of curriculum reform in Indonesia, the current state of the curriculum, the process of curriculum reform, and the challenges and implications of implementing the new Curriculum. The article argues that curriculum reform is crucial for Indonesia's education system to meet the needs of its students and prepare them for the challenges of the 21st century. The Indonesian education system has been facing several challenges, particularly in the area of curriculum. One of the main issues is the lack of alignment between the curriculum and the needs of the workforce, resulting in a mismatch between the skills taught in schools and those required by the labor market. Moreover, the education system has been criticized for its heavy emphasis on rote learning and memorization, which has been seen as a barrier to the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students. To address these challenges and improve the quality of education in Indonesia, there have been multiple attempts to reform the curriculum over the years. The most recent curriculum reform, the 2013 Curriculum, aims to improve the relevance of the curriculum to the needs of the workforce, promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and equip students with the skills required for the 21st century. However, the implementation of the new Curriculum has faced several challenges, including inadequate teacher training, lack of resources, and resistance from stakeholders. The article concludes by highlighting the need for continued efforts to ensure the successful implementation of the new Curriculum and maximize its potential impact on the quality of education in Indonesia.

The Teacher’s Role in The Implementation of Curriculum Merdeka in English Classroom

Abstract: The Independent curriculum is a new curriculum used in Indonesia and a transitional curriculum from K-13 curriculum. Therefore, this study aims to examine how the role of a teacher in implementing the new curriculum in the… he class they teach, especially English teachers. This study used library research methods, the data were taken from several articles and similar research. The source of data came from Google Scholar by using keywords the role of the teacher in the independent curriculum and the application of the independent curriculum in English classes. The results of this study indicate that English teachers are people who play an important role in implementing the independent curriculum. The English teacher in this curriculum acts as a giver of understanding, and has influence to improve the quality of education as well as an adapter that aligns the curriculum with the characteristics and needs of students. English teachers can implement an independent curriculum by changing teaching methods, using new strategies to improve learning outcomes. For curriculum implementation there are several strategies that English teachers can use such as games, music, using interactive learning media when teaching, then you can also use Role-play, Information-gap activities, Jigsaw activities, open-ended discussions and debates.

THE ANALYSIS OF THE FORMAT AND PRESENTATION OF ENGLISH COURSE IN CURRICULUM MERDEKA

English is one of the subjects programmed in the Merdeka Curriculum. The English language learning in the Merdeka Curriculum is designed to help individuals improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in English. This research adopts a library research method by collecting data and information from relevant literature sources. The collected data is analyzed through a review and understanding of existing literature. The research findings indicate that the Merdeka Curriculum provides comprehensive guidelines regarding identity, structure, teaching methods, and assessment, with a focus on flexibility in subject selection and the development of individual potential.

The Implementation Of Authentic Assessment In English Language Teaching

Abstract: This study aims to compare four types of authentic assessment in an educational context: project assessment, portfolio assessment, written assessment, and performance assessment. The research method used is library research.… rch. The research findings show that authentic assessment is effective in promoting deep concept understanding and application of knowledge in real situations. Project assessment provides students with opportunities to integrate skills and knowledge in tasks relevant to the real world. Portfolio assessment allows students to reflect on their development holistically through a collection of work. Simulation assessments give students the experience of applying knowledge in a structured context. Case study assessments develop critical thinking skills in complex situations. In conclusion, educators need to consider learning objectives and student characteristics in choosing the appropriate type of authentic assessment. This research provides practical guidance for educators in designing effective assessments that motivate students. The results of this study encourage further discussion and research on the development of authentic assessment methods in education.

The Importance of Conducting Need Analysis to Design English Courses in Curriculum Merdeka

In this context, needs analysis has become an important stage in ensuring that the material, techniques, and evaluation in the English language course meet the needs of students. The article discusses the importance of needs analysis in designing English language courses. Needs analysis helps determine appropriate learning objectives and guides curriculum development. The curriculum can be designed to integrate relevant and practical language skills while comprehensively assessing student needs. Additionally, needs analysis allows for the customization of learning programs to student characteristics. Each group of students has unique backgrounds, interests, and demands. By studying students' needs specifically, teachers can select and design resources that are appropriate for their skill level, interests, and context. This will encourage students to learn. In addition, the Government gives authority to schools to make their vision, mission and characteristics a reference for operational curriculum development. Presentation media is said to be a graphic, photographic tool, and can also be in the form of an electronic device that has the function of capturing, processing and rearranging information in the form of verbal or visual. English learning is developing English language skills in a contextual and acceptable manner according to the context and conditions and situations of students' daily lives. This is to produce a form of learning English that is more in touch with the language needs of students. Curriculum Merdeka is a curriculum which in its development is the result of adjustments to the latest conditions in an area and in accordance with the development of students due to contemporary issues that are currently happening. This research is use method literature study. Data collected and analyzed entirely from the literature as well as other documentation materials, such as writing in journals or other media relevant and still being studied.

Analisis Gaya Belajar Peserta Didik Ditinjau Dari Asesmen Pembelajaran Terhadap Kurikulum Merdeka

Abstract: Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menganalisis gaya belajar peserta didik ditinjau dari asesmen pembelajaran terhadap kurikulum merdeka. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian kualitatif dengan kategori studi kepustakaan (library… rary research). Studi kepustakaan dilakukan dengan menggunakan berbagai macam jurnal kepustakaan serta buku untuk dikaji dan disimpulkan. Dari hasil penelusuran artikel penelitian, didapatkan bahwa gaya belajar dibagi menjadi tiga, yaitu visual, auditori, dan kinesterik. Gaya belajar dipengaruhi oleh dua faktor, yaitu faktor internal dan faktor eksternal. Gaya belajar yang dimiliki oleh peserta didik berbeda-beda tergantung pada karakteristik kepribadian. Dengan perubahan di era modern, terdapat peserta didik yang memiliki lebih dari satu gaya belajar. Hal ini sesuai dengan kajian kepustakaan yang dilakukan, bahwa gaya belajar peserta didik sangat beragam dan berbeda-beda, memiliki ciri khas yang unik. Pemetaan gaya belajar pada Kurikulum Merdeka digunakan dan dimanfaatkan guru dalam membuat asesmen dengan menyesuaikan kemampuan yang dimiliki peserta didik. Sehingga hasil yang didapatkan memenuhi capaian pembelajaran yang diinginkan.

Studi Literatur Menumbuhkan Motivasi Belajar Siswa Melalui Strategi Pembelajaran Berdiferensiasi Dalam Konteks Pedagogi

Oleh karena itu, sejak dini, peserta didik perlu dilatih untuk memanfaatkan segala kondisi sebagai bahan belajar guna meningkatkan keterampilan mereka yang akan berguna di masa depan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi literatur dengan menelaah berbagai sumber rujukan seperti buku dan artikel ilmiah baik dari tingkat nasional maupun internasional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa salah satu cara untuk menjaga semangat belajar peserta didik yang memiliki karakteristik yang berbeda-beda adalah dengan menerapkan strategi pembelajaran berdiferensiasi. Beberapa hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi pembelajaran berdiferensiasi mampu meningkatkan semangat belajar peserta didik karena mereka diberikan kegiatan pembelajaran yang berbeda-beda dan menyesuaikan dengan kebutuhan mereka. Dengan menerapkan strategi pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan peserta didik, maka keterampilan yang mereka miliki akan meningkat dan akan berguna bagi mereka di masa depan.

Enhancing Speaking Ability Through Hello English Application

Abstract: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan aplikasi Hello English terhadap keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas tujuh di SMPN 13 Kota Tangerang. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif quasi-eksperimental&#8230; imental untuk menguji apakah aplikasi tersebut dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa secara lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan metode pengajaran konvensional. Populasi penelitian terdiri dari siswa kelas tujuh tahun ajaran 2024/2025, dengan dua kelas yang dipilih sebagai sampel menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling, yaitu kelas 7E dan 7F yang masing-masing berjumlah 35 siswa. Satu kelas dijadikan kelompok eksperimen yang menggunakan aplikasi Hello English, sedangkan kelas lainnya menjadi kelompok kontrol dengan pembelajaran konvensional. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes berbicara dan dianalisis secara statistik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang diajar menggunakan aplikasi Hello English memperoleh kemampuan berbicara yang lebih baik, dengan rata-rata nilai post-test sebesar 84,00 dibandingkan dengan 74,86 pada kelas kontrol. Selain itu, hasil Independent Samples Test menunjukkan nilai t-hitung sebesar 5,616 dengan derajat kebebasan 68 dan nilai signifikansi di bawah 0,05 (<0,001), yang berarti terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan secara statistik antara kedua kelompok. Oleh karena itu, hipotesis nol ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif diterima. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa aplikasi Hello English secara signifikan meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa. This study investigates the effect of using the Hello English application on the speaking skills of seventh-grade students at SMPN 13 Kota Tangerang. The research employed a quantitative, quasi-experimental design to examine whether the application could improve students’ oral proficiency more effectively than conventional teaching methods. The population consisted of seventh-grade students in the 2024/2025 academic year, with two classes selected as samples using cluster random sampling: class 7E and class 7F, each with 35 students. One class served as the experimental group using the Hello English application, while the other functioned as the control group using conventional instruction. Data were collected through speaking tests and analyzed statistically. The findings revealed that students taught through the Hello English application achieved better speaking performance, with an average post-test score of 84.00 compared to 74.86 in the control class. Furthermore, the Independent Samples Test showed a t-score of 5.616 with 68 degrees of freedom and a significance value below 0.05 (<0.001), indicating a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, the Hello English application significantly improved students’ speaking skills.
