is a procession of Qur'an khatam which is an important part of the traditional wedding series. This research aims to examine the symbolic meaning and cultural values in the Mappanre Temme tradition and its relevance in the life of modern society. The method used is a literature study with a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of the study show that this tradition contains religious, educational, social, and moral values. Apart from being a symbol of the spiritual readiness of the bride-to-be, this tradition is also a medium for the preservation of Islamic values and local culture. However, modernization also affects the meaning of this tradition, so sustainable preservation efforts are needed.

Abstract:This study examines the rapid expansion of the coffee shop industry in Makassar City as a phenomenon that creates not only economic opportunities but also increasing competitive saturation. As coffee shops in Makassar have…
ve developed beyond places of beverage consumption into urban social spaces linked to lifestyle, sociability, symbolic visibility, and identity formation, competition has become denser and more complex. The study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of how coffee shop owners and managers experience, interpret, and respond to this increasingly crowded market. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research employed in-depth semi-structured interviews with business actors involved in strategic and operational decision-making, supported by contextual observation and business-related documents. The findings reveal five main themes: market growth is experienced as both opportunity and pressure; similarity among coffee shops increases vulnerability and reduces perceived distinctiveness; entrepreneurs rely on continuous adaptation rather than fixed strategies; business sustainability is understood as stability, relevance, and survival rather than expansion alone; and competition is shaped not only by product and price, but also by ambience, visibility, symbolic value, and lifestyle alignment.
Abstract:The persistent gap between theoretical instruction and real-world practice remains a critical challenge in business education, particularly in contexts involving Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Experiential…
learning has been promoted as a pedagogical response to this challenge; however, many initiatives lack structured frameworks that integrate student learning with meaningful community engagement. This study examines the implementation of the BRIDGE model (Build, Reach, Discover, Grow, and Elevate) as a structured business mentoring approach grounded in experiential learning principles. Using a qualitative participatory action research design, the study involved 15 undergraduate business students and five MSMEs in Semarang City, Indonesia. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, reflective journals, and program documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that the BRIDGE model facilitates deep experiential learning by enabling students to connect theoretical concepts with contextual business realities, while simultaneously generating instrumental and symbolic benefits for MSME partners. Despite limitations related to program duration, the model demonstrates strong potential as a feasible and transferable framework for experiential business education in emerging economy contexts.

tivity was conducted in the form of a public discussion involving the Bunda Menyapa PKM project team, Bunda PAUD Desa Kedungbanteng Kecamatan Kedungbanteng, Banyumas District, and college students from the Early Childhood Education Teacher Education Study Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. The students participated as the proposing group of the campaign idea and as the writers of the Bunda Menyapa campaign song. The activity aimed to formulate the initial embryo of the Bunda Menyapa Campaign as an institutional advocacy model to be proposed to Bunda PAUD Kabupaten Banyumas. The method consisted of participatory public discussion, campaign concept presentation, stakeholder dialogue, theme-song discussion, and initial review of a policy brief proposal. The result of the activity was the formation of an early campaign concept that integrates symbolic leadership, community communication, institutional advocacy, and policy recommendation. The discussion also opened an opportunity for the policy brief proposal to be developed into a practical advocacy document for strengthening PAUD governance in Banyumas District.
Abstract:This study explores how influencer marketing shapes digital identity and spatial relations in Makassar, Indonesia, through a spatially grounded urban ethnography approach. This framework enables a deep reading of how urban…
an residents engage with digital practices to navigate symbolic and spatial exclusion generated by influencer content. Through social media observation, narrative interviews, and the tracing of urban locations featured in visual representation, the study finds that influencer marketing does not merely sell products—it also reproduces social hierarchies through aesthetic spatiality and the logic of visibility.
Yet, amid such exclusions, marginalized communities deploy diverse tactics of resistance, including visual reengineering, the use of alternative locations, and digital irony that disrupt dominant narratives. These findings suggest that digital identity is not passively consumed but actively negotiated through concrete and often unexpected spatial relations. Drawing on Lefebvre’s theory of the production of space, Urry’s concept of digital mobilities, and Gandy’s politics of infrastructure, the study shows how cities and digital spaces co-constitute a contested symbolic terrain.
The article’s main contribution lies in advancing a Global South perspective, where digital technologies and aesthetics are practiced contextually and do not always conform to the logics of global capitalism. This research underscores that urban—and digital—space is not solely produced from above, but also from below, through the everyday agency of ordinary citizens.
Abstract:This study aims to reveal the relationship between the values contained in the Qur'an and the traditional practice of dowry (mahr) giving, viewed from both religious and cultural perspectives. Using a qualitative approach…
h based on the textual analysis of Qur'anic verses and in-depth interviews with experts in religious studies and cultural anthropology, this research integrates the frameworks of maqasid al-sharia and cultural anthropology theory to analyze the historical and contemporary transformation of dowry practices. The study also explores the symbolic meaning of dowry, not merely as an obligation but as a form of recognition of women's dignity and rights within the family. Furthermore, it examines the socio-economic factors influencing the amount of dowry and how these factors affect social structures and gender relations within society. In addition, comparisons are made with dowry practices in various other cultures and religions, enabling a deeper understanding of both the unique and shared aspects of universal human values. This comprehensive analysis seeks to provide new insights and a concrete contribution to contemporary discussions on the role of religion in social and cultural life, as well as the challenges of integrating tradition with the needs of modern society. The findings indicate that the practice of dowry giving, as prescribed in the Qur'anic verses, possesses profound normative and strategic values in ensuring justice and social balance within the family structure. Every element of the dowry is not merely symbolic but also embodies meanings that reflect responsibility, respect, and commitment in married life. Over time, the understanding and implementation of this tradition have undergone significant changes, influenced by evolving social, economic, and cultural conditions. This highlights the importance of not only preserving the tradition but also adapting it to meet the demands of contemporary society.
Abstract:This study examines the visual symbols and cultural values contained in the Marhum Pekan Tomb, one of the historical sites inherited from the Siak Sri Indrapura Sultanate which is the cultural identity of Pekanbaru City.…
City. The purpose of this study is to reveal the meaning, philosophical values, and forms of acculturation of Islamic culture with local Malay traditions represented through the physical form and ornamentation of the tomb. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with Erwin Panofsky's iconographic approach which includes three stages of analysis, namely pre-iconography, iconography, and iconology. Data sources were obtained through field observations, in-depth interviews, as well as literature and documentation reviews. The results of the study show that visually (pre-iconography), the Marhum Pekan Tomb displays the architectural characteristics of the Selaso Jatuh Kembar House, the use of Malay regalia, stepped jirat forms, and headstones with gender-differentiating shapes, all of which are a blend of local and Islamic culture. Based on the iconographic analysis, all ornaments in the form of plant and flower motifs contain symbolic meanings of purity, fragrant names, good deeds, and obedience to Islamic teachings that prohibit the depiction of living creatures. Meanwhile, iconological analysis reveals the fundamental meaning that this tomb complex is a tangible manifestation of the Malay people's philosophy of life, namely "Adat bersendi Syarak, Syarak bersendi Kitabbullah". The tomb of Marhum Pekan is not merely a burial place, but also evidence of the history of Islamic-Malay civilization and the collective memory of the community, which confirms that the development of Pekanbaru City grew and developed on a foundation of religious values and harmonious local cultural wisdom.
Abstract:This study examines the main character’s search for identity in Tere Liye’s novel Sendiri (2024) through the lens of Carl Gustav Jung’s psychoanalytic theory. The research addresses the lack of in-depth psychological analysis…
al analysis regarding how the protagonist confronts inner conflict, loneliness, and past trauma in the process of identity formation. The study aims to describe the forms, strategies, and obstacles in the character’s identity quest, as well as to analyze the individuation process based on Jungian concepts such as persona, shadow, anima/animus, and the Self. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, utilizing close reading and thematic analysis of textual data from the novel. Findings reveal that the protagonist undergoes a complex, nonlinear psychological journey toward self-understanding, triggered by existential crisis and emotional isolation. Through deep introspection, symbolic interactions (particularly with natural elements like the moon), and confrontation with the shadow, the character gradually integrates fragmented aspects of the self. This study demonstrates that Jungian theory effectively uncovers the psychological depth of characters in contemporary Indonesian literature and affirms the relevance of literary fiction as a medium for reflecting on identity formation and emotional resilience in real life.
