Abstract: Abstract: Various aspects of life, including Pancasila democracy in Indonesia, have been greatly influenced by advances in information and communication technology, especially social media. Social media is an important tool… ool for disseminating information, shaping public opinion, and increasing citizen involvement in the democratic process. The aim of this research is to see how social media influences the 10 pillars of Pancasila democracy, with an emphasis on elements such as transparency, participation and accountability. This study uses literature and content analysis from various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The research results show that social media can help strengthen Pancasila democracy by providing a more open and inclusive platform where people can express their aspirations and criticize government policies. On the other hand, social media can also cause problems, such as polarization of society and the spread of misinformation (hoaxes). In conclusion, social media is very important to strengthen the pillars of Pancasila democracy. However, to ensure the influence of social media remains positive and constructive, issues such as polarization and the spread of inaccurate information must be addressed. Therefore, Canva-based poster creation training can serve as an effective educational medium for integrating digital literacy, creativity, visual communication, and the internalization of Pancasila values, particularly democratic character based on the Fourth Principle, in the school environment.

Democracy and Bureaucracy: A Bibliometrics Comparative Analysis on the Developed and Developing Countries

Meiyani, Eliza, Putri Sadayi, Delila, Hayan Mochammad, Fadhil
Abstract: This study aims to analyze the development of democratic and bureaucratic theories that occur in developed and developing countries. The author identifies this research by analyzing journal articles that are indexed by Scopus… copus as journals with reputable and accountable research outputs. The Scopus database was used as data in this study. This study uses a comparative qualitative method of analysis by comparing documents published in developed and developing countries. The results of this study show that; 1) The development of research related to democracy and bureaucracy based on the Scopus database has decreased significantly in 2017-2020, increased in 2021 and decreased again in 2022. 2) The predominance of research related to democracy and bureaucracy occurs in the United State, where the country is a full-fledged democracy. 3) The connectedness of the study during 2015-2022 is divided into 8 clusters, each cluster displays a comparison of countries with the interconnectedness between countries involved in the research. 4) The high weberianess of the state bureaucracy is due to the professional public administration before democracy combined with electoral competition and non-ethnic politics. Brazil, South Korea, and Taiwan are examples. Argentine hyper-presidentialism exacerbates top-down politicization of public administration and personalist patronage.

Ace Up One's Sleeve: A Systematic Communicative Review of Journalistic Media Dominance in Shaping the Contemporary Political Landscape

Siregar, Rahman, Saragih, Muhammad Yoserizal
Abstract: This article aims to analyze the role of journalistic media in shaping the contemporary political landscape, focusing on its ability to manipulate and direct public opinion and policy. Considering the media's dominance in… n agenda setting, this study highlights the urgency of understanding its broad influence on democracy and public policy. Journalistic media, which has transformed from a passive information provider to an active opinion shaper, plays a crucial role in this fast-paced and widespread information era. Therefore, a deep understanding of how media shapes political narratives is essential to maintaining the integrity of the democratic process. The methodology used in this research is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), which involves the collection and analysis of data from previously published sources to build a comprehensive understanding of the media's role in politics. This approach allows for the identification of trends, challenges, and the broader impact of media on politics. Additionally, this study employs theoretical analysis by combining Media Dependency Theory and Agenda Setting Theory to examine how public dependence on media and media's power in setting the agenda influence political dynamics. The results of the study indicate that media often leverages its strategic position to direct public opinion, which can significantly impact election outcomes and public policy. The high public dependence on media for information makes the media a powerful tool in shaping the political agenda, often benefiting media owners or specific interest groups. Based on the findings and discussion, this article recommends the need for stricter media oversight and increased media literacy among the public to reduce bias and ensure that the media plays its role as an effective watchdog rather than a biased opinion shaper. These recommendations aim to support policies that promote transparency and integrity in journalism, ensuring that the media can continue to be a pillar of healthy democracy without compromising objectivity or accountability.

“INDONESIA COULD NEVER”: VICARIOUS POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT AND THE DIGITAL SPECTRE OF COMPARISONS IN INDONESIAN NETIZENS’ DISCOURSE ON ZOHRAN MAMDANI

Akbar, Muhammad Rafly, Yasya, Wichitra
Abstract: This study examines how a non-diasporic public in the Global South engages with a foreign election in which it holds no vote, no residence, and no direct material stake. Rather than asking how Indonesian netizens represent… nt Zohran Mamdani, the first Muslim Mayor of New York City, it asks what talking about Mamdani does for these netizens as members of their own polity, and develops the concept of comparative civic imagination: the use of a foreign political figure as a discursive instrument for evaluating, criticising, and re-imagining one’s own democracy. The study applies qualitative Computer-Mediated Discourse Analysis (CMDA) to public Indonesian-language discourse about Mamdani on platform X between 1 November 2025 and 30 June 2026, drawing on a purposively constructed corpus of 213 units—134 citizen-account units as the analytical core and 79 media-account units as contextual triangulation—recoded by comparative function and affective register rather than by stance toward the figure. The findings show that Indonesian netizens engage Mamdani through a comparative architecture organised by the vernacular frame “Mamdani Indonesia” (45% of citizen units) and enacted through three repertoires: analogical personification, institutional benchmarking, and counterfactual transposition. The discourse is animated by civic despair—crystallised in the idiom “Indonesia could never”—which operates as a participatory rather than an apathetic affect, while a domestic value-compatibility filter of doctrinal, sectarian, and purity tests renders the admired model discursively non-transferable, closing a recursive loop theorised here as a digitally networked spectre of comparisons. The article shifts the analysis of transnational digital engagement away from cosmopolitan and diasporic assumptions toward the vicarious engagement of non-diasporic publics, re-theorises despair as a mode of civic engagement, and recovers Benedict Anderson’s spectre of comparisons for platform-era political communication in the Global South.

Beyond The Hype: a Real World Evaluation of Blockchain's Role in Democratizing Agri Food Systems

Dzreke, Simon Suwanzy
Abstract: Blockchain technology is touted for democratizing supply chains, but 30–40% of smallholder farmers are excluded from fair market participation due to information gaps and power imbalances. The first complete empirical examination… examination of blockchain's capacity to empower disadvantaged farmers in Global South agri-food systems. The paper examines 15 large-scale implementations, including Kenyan coffee cooperatives and Indian dairy collectives, using a rigorous mixed-methods methodology. Technical scalability in resource-limited situations, governance structures that promote meaningful multi-stakeholder engagement, and quantifiable inclusion results for small-scale farmers are thoroughly examined. Comparative case study, agent-based adoption modeling, and quasi-experimental effect evaluation by Propensity Score matching reveal that blockchain's potential is not automatic nor inherent in eight nations. Techno-institutional synergy, not technological complexity, improves democracy, the research shows. Hybrid governance systems with farmer-controlled validator nodes and tokenized decision-making rights enhanced smallholder involvement by 58% and premium retention by 78% over corporate-controlled systems. However, technologically sophisticated deployments without institutional expertise frequently increase power concentration and exclusion. The blockchain viability index helps identify optimal deployment conditions for different commodities, empirical evidence challenges the idea that decentralization automatically promotes inclusion, and the inclusion-by-design framework helps policymakers embed equitable principles into decentralized agri-tech from the start. This study shows food system digitization practitioners and scholars that genuine democratization occurs when technology drives institutional transformation.

MATERNALISM, THE HIJAB, AND CITIZENSHIP: A CRITIQUE OF GENDER POLITICS PRACTICES IN INDONESIA

Yenny Juliana, Nikmatullah, Dahlia Hidayati
Abstract: This article examines political practices concerning gender issues in Indonesia by highlighting the roles of maternalism (ibuisme) and the hijab as symbolic political instruments. Maternalism positions women within the social… ocial construction of nurturing “mothers of the nation,” while the hijab functions as a symbol of religiosity and cultural identity used to strengthen electoral legitimacy. Although these symbols may provide women with access and acceptance in political spaces, they often limit the meaning of women’s participation by emphasizing symbolic representation rather than substantive capability and political ideas. This analysis employs a qualitative approach based on a literature review of academic studies on political representation, identity politics, patriarchy, and citizenship. The findings indicate that maternalism and the hijab reflect the persistent dominance of patriarchal culture in Indonesian politics, resulting in gender-biased forms of female citizenship. Therefore, critical awareness and deeper reflection are needed to ensure that women’s representation in politics does not remain merely symbolic but instead fosters substantive participation for a more inclusive democracy.
