NEGOTIATING REPRODUCTIVE AGENCY: SOCIAL REGULATION AND EMBODIED KNOWLEDGE IN BUGIS-MAKASSAR WOMEN’S RESPONSES TO PREGNANCY RISK

Cindy Israeni Ansar
Abstract: This study explores how Bugis-Makassar women construct and navigate plural reproductive knowledge in response to abortus imminens (threatened miscarriage), drawing on Talcott Parsons’ AGIL framework to analyze the sociocultural… ocultural functions of care practices. Based on ethnographic fieldwork in Makassar, Indonesia, including interviews and participant observation with ten pregnant women, the study reveals that reproductive behavior is shaped by adaptive strategies (A), collective goals (G), moral integration (I), and intergenerational transmission of norms (L). Rather than following a singular medical logic, women mobilize syncretic forms of care that blend biomedical treatment, spiritual rituals, and ancestral taboos. These plural responses reflect not only epistemic hybridity but also reproductive governance enacted through kinship, religious authority, and clinical institutions. Women's agency is expressed not through open resistance, but through strategic moral navigation and embodied alignment with normative expectations—a form of what Mahmood terms the ethics of self-formation. The findings challenge biomedical-centric approaches to maternal health and highlight the need for culturally responsive interventions that respect local logics of risk, protection, and care. This study contributes to sociological debates on medical pluralism, moral regulation, and the reproduction of gendered knowledge in the Global South.

IBN MISKAWAIH'S ETHICAL ANALYSIS OF HIFZ NASL IN OVERCOMING DEEPFAKE PORNOGRAPHY IN THE AI ERA

Utami, Nadia, Purnamasari, Elvira
Abstract: In the era of artificial intelligence (AI), the rise of pornographic deepfakes poses a serious threat to human dignity, privacy, and social stability. This phenomenon exploits deep learning technology to manipulate individuals’… iduals’ faces into non-consensual pornographic content, often targeting women and public figures. This paper examines the ethics of Ibn Miskawayh, a 10th-century Muslim philosopher, specifically the concept of hifz al-nasl (preservation of lineage) as one of the five maqasid al-shari’a (Islamic principles), to address this issue. Hifz al-nasl emphasizes the protection of human lineage, including family honor, women’s dignity, and social integrity, which are relevant to the psychological damage, trauma, and moral degradation caused by deepfakes. Through an analysis of the texts Tahdhib al-Akhlaq and Al-Fauz al-Asghar, this concept is outlined as a preventive and curative principle: prevention through strengthening individual morals and regulating technology, and treatment through restorative justice. Ibn Miskawayh combines Aristotelian philosophy with Islam, making hifz al-nasl a collective obligation to maintain the balance of the soul (nafs) and society. Its applications to deepfakes include: (1) ethical use of AI based on piety and ‘adl; (2) legal regulations that protect privacy as an extension of preserving lineage; and (3) moral education to build digital resilience. This study concludes that Ibn Miskawaih’s approach offers a holistic framework, integrating spiritual, ethical, and legal dimensions, that is more adaptive than technological solutions alone. Recommendations include the development of contemporary fatwas and ethical AI platforms for the digital age.

THE ROLE OF SOCIAL SUPPORT ON RESILIENCE IN PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV AIDS: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW

Gusni Rahma, Afriyenti, Lenny Utama
Abstract: People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) face multiple psychosocial challenges, including stigma, discrimination, and mental health problems that may reduce quality of life and treatment adherence. Resilience and psychosocial… support are recognized as important protective factors that help PLWHA adapt positively to these challenges; however, existing evidence remains fragmented and has not been comprehensively synthesized. This study aimed to examine the role of psychosocial support in strengthening resilience and its implications for mental health among PLWHA through a systematic review approach. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across national and international scientific databases, including quantitative, qualitative, and review studies that addressed resilience, psychosocial support, and mental health among PLWHA, with a particular focus on Asian settings. Articles were selected based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings indicate that psychosocial support—such as support from family, peers, and healthcare providers—plays a significant role in enhancing resilience among PLWHA. Higher levels of resilience are consistently associated with lower levels of depression and anxiety, as well as improved psychological well-being and quality of life. In conclusion, psychosocial support is essential in strengthening resilience and promoting mental health among PLWHA, highlighting the importance of integrating psychosocial interventions into HIV/AIDS care services to support long-term well-being and adaptive coping.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL ACCOUNTING FOR WATER PRODUCTION RESIDUES (A CASE STUDY AT THE REGIONAL PUBLIC DRINKING WATER COMPANY PERUMDA MUARA TIRTA, GORONTALO CITY)

Dzulkarnain Agung Mooduto, Mahdalena, Ronald S. Badu
Abstract: The objective of this study is to examine the management of water production residues and to analyze their implementation in environmental accounting at PERUMDA Air Minum Mutiara Tirta, Gorontalo City. This study employs… a qualitative method with a case study approach. The research informants were selected using purposive sampling, consisting of individuals who were considered knowledgeable and directly involved in the issues under investigation, including the Production Coordinator, Maintenance Division, Laboratory Officer of Zone 1, Assistant Manager of Secretariat and Public Relations, and the Accounting and Budgeting Officer. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation by applying data source triangulation to ensure data validity. The results indicate that the management of water production residues has been carried out in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); however, its effectiveness remains limited due to constraints in budget allocation, facilities, and waste treatment technology. In terms of environmental accounting implementation, the recognition, measurement, presentation, and disclosure of environmental costs have not been optimally integrated, as environmental costs are still recorded within general operational budgets without specific classification and detailed reporting. This condition reflects existing challenges in linking waste management practices with environmental accounting records. The main obstacles include limited technological capacity, insufficient human resources with expertise in environmental accounting, and the absence of specific regulations governing environmental cost recording. Therefore, clearer regulatory support, dedicated budget allocation, improved waste treatment technology, and employee training are required to ensure a more effective and sustainable implementation of environmental accounting.

OVERVIEW OF COMMUNITY STIGMA TOWARD PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS IN GORONTALO CITY

Nirwanto K. Rahim, Ita Sulistiani, Ayu Rofia Nurfadhilah
Abstract: HIV/AIDS remains a major public health concern worldwide, and stigma toward People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) continues to hinder prevention and treatment efforts, particularly in regions with limited health literacy.… In Gorontalo City, community stigma persists due to misconceptions about HIV transmission, exaggerated fears, and culturally embedded moral judgments that associate HIV with deviant behavior. This study aims to describe the level of community stigma toward PLWHA in Liluwo Village and identify factors contributing to these attitudes. Using an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design, the study involved 185 respondents selected through stratified random sampling. A structured questionnaire assessed respondents’ HIV/AIDS knowledge, religiosity, and stigmatizing attitudes. The findings reveal that 102 respondents (55.1%) demonstrated stigmatizing behaviors, characterized by avoidance of physical contact, reluctance to live near PLWHA, fear of sharing public spaces, and inaccurate beliefs about how HIV is transmitted. Meanwhile, 83 respondents (44.9%) exhibited no stigma, showing higher levels of HIV-related knowledge, a better understanding of scientific facts about transmission, and a more empathetic and inclusive approach toward PLWHA. The variation between these groups highlights the crucial role of health literacy, cultural norms, and access to accurate information in shaping community attitudes. The study concludes that reducing stigma requires comprehensive and continuous educational interventions, targeted health promotion, and active involvement of community and religious leaders to build a more supportive environment for PLWHA. Strengthening public understanding is essential to ensure equitable treatment and improve the well-being of those affected by HIV.
