gmatic equivalence emphasizes the conveyance of implicit meaning through communication principles such as those proposed by Grice, where coherence takes precedence over mere lexical and grammatical cohesion. In humor translation, coherence refers to the interconnectedness of meaning based on shared context and knowledge between the author and the audience, rather than simply the structure of sentences. However, humor is inherently ambiguous and open to multiple interpretations, making its meaning not always directly transferable. A single mistranslated element can alter the entire comedic effect, as humor is often highly culture-specific. In this case, the translator’s role extends beyond language transfer to bridging the knowledge gap that the target audience might have, sometimes at the cost of the humor’s spontaneity. This challenge creates a dilemma between preserving natural comedic effect and delivering accurate meaning. As a result, humor translation often leans toward either overly literal or overly liberal approaches, each with the risk of losing essential nuance. Therefore, pragmatic equivalence involves more than just finding corresponding meanings; it also requires sensitivity to the social and cultural contexts that shape audience responses. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on the unique complexity of humor translation, making it a valuable contribution to the fields of literary studies, linguistics, and translation studies.

Abstrak: Bahasa Inggris adalah bahasa Internasional sehingga penerapan bahasa inggris meliputi semua aspek kehidupan masyarakat terutama di sebuah perusahaan. Penerapan bahasa inggris dapat terlihat pada perusahaan PT. Mandom Indonesia Batam, dimana sebagian staff pada bagian tertentu seperti front liner, receptionist, ambassador, dan marketing harus mampu menggunakan bahasa inggris karna bertugas sebagai penerima tamu baik lokal maupun internasional. Melihat akan pentingnya peranan bahasa Inggris di PT. Mandom Indonesia Batam di dalam berinteraksi kepada tamu maka perlu kiranya diberikan pelatihan bagi perkerja di dalam penerapan prinsip kerjasama dan sapaan dalam bahasa Inggris (address forms) agar dapat menimbulkan kesan yang positif dari tamu asing terhadap sikap pekerja lokal yang terkenal dengan kesopanannya.Prinsip kerjasama (cooperative principle) ini didasari pada teori Grice di (Crabtree, 2013) bahwa di dalam berkomunikasi setiap penutur dan tertutur harus dapat memahami empat prinsip kerjasama di dalam berkomunikasi antara lain, quality maxim, quantity maxim,relevance maxim dan manner maxim. Pelatihan menggunakan metode ceramah dan interaksi langsung terhadap peserta pelatihan dengan teknik interactive practice terhadap materi mengenai prinsip kerjasama komunikasi dan (address forms.) Metode analisis deskriptif dalam penelotian ini juga diperkuat dengan menggunakan pendekatan teori Grice. Cara kerja teori Grice menerapkan kerja maksim yang meliputi: maksim kualitas, maksim kuantitas, maksim relevansi dan maksim cara. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini ialah 4 orang penjual di Siring, Banjarmasin. Pengumpulan data dilakakukan dengan dua teknik, yakni teknik dokumentasi dan teknik catat. Proses penganalisisan data pada penelitian ini dilakukan dengan teknik analisis yang di sesuaikan dengan kajian analisis wacana oleh teori Grice. Dari hasil penelitian ditemukan penerapan dan pelanggaran dari maksim dalam kerja sama Grice. Data tersebut beruapa 10 bentuk penerapan dari maksim Grice dan 3 pelanggaran maksim Grice.

Dalam praktik komunikasi, keempat maksim tersebut tidak selalu dipatuhi, karena penutur kerap melakukan pelanggaran secara sengaja untuk menghasilkan implikatur tertentu. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data penelitian berupa tuturan dalam dialog Tilik the Series yang diperoleh melalui teknik simak, catat, serta dokumentasi dalam bentuk transkrip dialog. Proses analisis dilakukan dengan mengidentifikasi tuturan yang mengandung pelanggaran maksim, mengelompokkan data berdasarkan jenis maksim yang dilanggar, serta menafsirkan implikatur yang dihasilkan dari pelanggaran tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dialog dalam serial tersebut mengandung berbagai bentuk pelanggaran maksim, terutama pada maksim kuantitas, kualitas, relevansi, dan cara. Pelanggaran ini dimanfaatkan sebagai strategi komunikasi untuk menyampaikan makna tersirat, membangun karakter tokoh, serta menghadirkan unsur humor dan kritik sosial dalam percakapan. Oleh karena itu, pelanggaran maksim dalam dialog Tilik the Series memiliki peran pragmatik yang signifikan dalam membentuk makna serta dinamika interaksi antar tokoh.

Core”. The main objective is to understand how conversational maxims and implicatures are applied in the context of podcasts to convey messages about self-confidence and self-love to listeners. The methods used are conversational analysis based on pragmatics theory, conversational analysis based on Grice's (1975), theory of maxims and qualitative methods based on Creswell's (2007), theory then the data analyzed are transcriptions of Selena Gomez podcasts that have been selected based on their relevance to the research topic. The analysis is done by looking at how each conversational maxim (maxims of quantity, quality, relevance, and manner) and the two existing implicatures (conventional implicature and conversational implicature) are applied in the verbal expressions in the podcast. The result is that the four maxims and two implicatures are all found in Selena Gomez's podcast.
