Effectiveness of Utilization of Home Yard Land in Supporting Food Availability in Rural Areas

Abstract: The problem of national food security is something that needs to be addressed sustainably by society and the government, especially in rural areas. To support food availability for the community, land is needed that can… be used for food development. One alternative is to use the yard of the house. Home gardens not only function as areas that provide beauty and coolness, but also as productive land that supports national food security by empowering local potential, both in rural and urban areas. Apart from that, the use of the yard also contributes to improving the family's economy. This research aims to examine the characteristics of residents regarding the use of homestead land in rural areas, analyze their utilization patterns, and assess the effectiveness of using homestead land in supporting food availability. The data in this research were analyzed using an experimental method, which involved initial measurements (pre-test), providing treatment in the form of guidance or direction regarding land use, and follow-up measurements (post-test). The research sample was selected using the snowball sampling method, namely a sampling technique based on individual networks. The research results show that the use of yard land is effective in supporting food availability. This is shown by the respondent's answer score on the program effectiveness variable, which is in the range of 50-100%, so it is included in the effective category

ANALYSIS OF HISTORY TEXTBOOKS ON THE SCIENCE OF ANCIENT MESOPOTAMIAN ZIGGURAT ARCHITECTURE

Abstract: This article aims to analyze the scientific content in the field of Ancient Mesopotamian ziggurat architecture presented in the History textbook of the 2009 School-Based Curriculum by Tarunasena M. This study uses a qualitative… itative approach with a content analysis method to examine historical discourse related to the development of science, technology, and civilization in Mesopotamia, especially in the Sumerians, Assyrians, and Chaldeans. The results of the Analysis show that the narrative in the textbook has included a representation of the progress of Mesopotamian civilization through orderly urban planning, the use of clay building materials, mastery of arithmetic and geometry, metal processing, the construction of ziggurats as religious and political symbols, the establishment of libraries as centers of knowledge, and the creation of monumental architectural works such as the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. These findings indicate that textbooks play an important role in transmitting to students the values of scientific progress, innovation, and the heritage of civilization.

Pengolahan Sampah Organik Rumah Tangga Menjadi Pupuk Organik Cair Sebagai Pendukung Urban Farming Tanaman Toga

Abstract: The low level of public awareness about the importance of waste management has caused waste in Mentari Village Housing, km 21, not to be managed properly. Making Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) is one solution to overcome… e this problem. The process of making POC produces a liquid that can be used as organic fertilizer, while the solids produced can be used as a garden media. The focus of the community service activities carried out is the cultivation of TOGA plants and the use of household organic waste as fertilizer for TOGA plants. The implementation of this activity program consists of several stages of activity, namely observation of existing conditions, socialization of activities, training in making liquid organic fertilizer, mentoring and evaluation. With this activity, the Mentari Willage km 21 housing community is marked by a change in knowledge for the better regarding the cultivation of TOGA gardens and the importance of processing household waste into organic fertilizer which can contribute to sustainable agriculture. Keywords: liquid organic fertilizer; organic waste; TOGA plants.   Abstrak: Masih rendahnya kesadaran warga tentang pentingnya pengelolaan sampah menyebabkan sampah di Perumahan Mentari Village km 21 belum terkelola dengan baik. Pembuatan Pupuk Organik Cair (POC) merupakan salah satu solusi untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut.  Proses pembuatan POC menghasilkan cairan yang dapat digunakan sebagai pupuk organic, sedangkan padatan yang dihasilkan dapat dijadikan sebagai media tanam. Fokus dari kegiatan pengadian masyarakat yang dilakukan adalah budidaya tanaman TOGA dan pemanfaatan sampah organik rumah tangga sebagai pupuk tanaman TOGA. Pelaksanaan program kegiatan ini terdiri dari beberapa tahapan kegiatan yaitu observasi kondisi eksisting, sosialisasi kegiatan, pelatihan pembuatan pupuk oraganik cair, pendampingan dan evaluasi. Dengan adanya kegiatan ini, masyarakat perumahan Mentari Willage km 21 yang ditandai dengan adanya perubahan pengetahuan menjadi tebih baik terkait budidaya tamana TOGA dan pentingnya pengolahan sampah rumah tangga menjadi pupuk organik yang dapat berkontribusi dalam pertanian berkelanjutan. Implementation of Solar-Powered Water Pump and Monitoring System for Hydroponic Urban Farming

Abstract: Hydroponic farming is gaining popularity in urban areas due to its efficient resource usage and high, clean yields. However, systems like the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) rely on electric pumps for continuous nutrient circulation,… irculation, making them vulnerable to extended power outages that can disrupt plant nutrition and lead to crop failure. The purpose of this activity is to address the issue of power outages that impacted the hydroponic gardens of the Women Farmers Group (KWT) Sepinggan Raya, Balikpapan, by implementing a solar-powered water pump and a water quality monitoring system. The program consisted of an initial survey, system development and installation, and training sessions on system operation and maintenance. Results indicate that the implementation of the solar pump and monitoring system improves hydroponic productivity while reducing operational costs previously dependent on the national electricity grid. Additionally, the project empowered the local women's group with renewable energy knowledge and modern farming technologies, promoting sustainable urban agriculture practices. Keywords: application of technologies; hydroponic; renewable energy; urban farming; water quality monitoring   Abstrak: Pertanian hidroponik semakin populer di area perkotaan yang memiliki keterbatasan ruang karena efisiensi sumber daya dan hasil panen yang tinggi. Namun, sistem hidroponik seperti Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) sangat bergantung pada pompa listrik untuk sirkulasi air nutrisi secara berkelanjutan. Pemadaman listrik yang berkepanjangan dapat mengganggu suplai nutrisi dan berpotensi menyebabkan kegagalan panen. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mengatasi permasalahan padamnya listrik yang terjadi di kebun hidroponik Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) Sepinggan Raya, Balikpapan dengan menerapkan pompa air tenaga surya dan sistem pemantauan kualitas air. Kegiatan meliputi survei awal, pengembangan dan instalasi sistem, serta pelatihan pengoperasian dan pemeliharaan teknologi bagi para petani. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa sistem ini meningkatkan produktivitas kebun hidroponik dan mengurangi ketergantungan terhadap jaringan listrik nasional (PLN). Selain itu, proyek ini memberdayakan kelompok tani dengan pengetahuan tentang energi terbarukan dan teknologi pertanian modern, mendorong praktik pertanian yang berkelanjutan di lingkungan urban. Pelatihan Pembuatan Keripik Daun Kopi Di Desa Cugung Lalang Kecamatan Kepahiang Kabupaten Kepahiang

Abstract: Abstract: So far the coffee commodity is still known as the main ingredient in the manufacture of beverages, namely coffee. Apart from coffee beans, many people in Cugung Lalang Village still do not know the information… coffee waste can be used in their daily lives. Some examples of the use of coffee waste can be used as compost, besides that coffee leaves can be made into a type of food, namely coffee leaf chips. In general, coffee farmers will routinely maintain post-harvest coffee gardens, namely by trimming coffee leaves. The coffee leaf waste resulting from pruning will only be piled up and left on the plantation. Therefore, this training can be an innovation that can increase the knowledge, skills and independence of community members in entrepreneurship. This of course will support the opening of opportunities to improve the economic level of the community. The results of the training showed that the community was able to make coffee leaf chips. The need for further training on how to package processed coffee leaf chips, so that they are ready to be marketed           Keywords: coffee leaf chips; training   Abstrak: Sejauh ini komoditas kopi masih dikenal sebagai bahan utama dalam pembuatan minuman yaitu kopi. Selain biji kopi masyarakat di Desa Cugung Lalang masih banyak yang belum tahu mengenai informasi bahwa limbah kopipun dapat dimanfaatkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Beberapa contoh pemanfaatan limbah kopi yaitu dapat digunakan sebagai pupuk kompos, selain itu daun kopi dapat dibuat jenis makanan yaitu keripik daun kopi. Pada umumnya para petani kopi akan rutin melakukan perawatan kebun pascapanen kopi yaitu dengan melakukan pemangkasan daun kopi. Limbah daun kopi hasil dari pemangkasan ini hanya akan ditumpuk dan dibiarkan di perkebunan. Oleh karena itu, adanya pelatihan ini dapat menjadi suatu inovasi yang dapat meningkatan pengetahuan, keterampilan dan kemandirian warga masyarakat dalam berwirausaha. Hal ini tentunya akan mendukung terbukanya peluang untuk meningkatkan taraf perekonomian masyarakat. Adapun metode yang digunakan yaitu melalui kegiatan sosialisasi dan pelatihan. Hasil dari pelatihan menunjukan bahwa masyarakat mampu membuat olahan keripik daun kopi. Perlunya pelatihan lanjutan mengenai bagiamana pengemasan olahan keripik daun kopi, sehingga siap untuk dipasarkan. Kata kunci: keripik daun kopi; pelatihan

SISTEM PENUNJANG KEPUTUSAN PENENTUAN JENIS TANAMAN HIAS DI TAMAN KOTA

All cities are aggressively arranging their landscaping to compensate for motorized vehicle pollution or the arrangement… rrangement of city parks planted with decorative gardens with the aim of greening the city. Sometimes there are problems in making decisions to determine suitable and good ornamental plants for planting in the city, in a decision that takes a long time. Determination of the types of ornamental plants to be planted through several factors such as leaf shape, color, stems and branches, roots and soil. On these issues, the authors conducted research on the determination of ornamental plants for city parks in the form of a decision support system application using the Analytical Hoerarchy Process (AHP) method.   Keywords: analytical hoerarchy process (AHP); decisionnsupporttsystem (SPK),     Abstrak: Saat ini hampirrdi setiap kota di seluruh dunia yang menyukai bunga termasuk tanaman hias, Semua kota gencar menata pertamanannya untuk mengimbangi polusi kendaraan bermotor maupun untuk penataan taman kota yang ditanami tamanan hias bertujuan untuk menghijaukan kota. Terkadang terdapat masalah dalam pengambilan keputusan untuk menentukan tanaman hias yang cocok dan bagus umtuk ditanam pad ataman kota, dalam pengambilan keputusan yang dilakukan terkadang memakan waktu yang cukup lama . Penentuan jenis tanaman hias yang akan ditanam melalui beberapa faktor seperti bentuk daun, warna, batang dan cabang, akar dan Tanah. Sosialisasi Tata Cara Revitalisasi Infrastruktur Hijau: Solusi Inovatif Untuk Peningkatan Ketahanan Lingkungan Di Pematang Johar

Abstract: Pematang Johar, sebuah desa yang berkembang pesat di Kecamatan Labuhan Deli, Kabupaten Deli Serdang, Sumatera Utara, menghadapi tekanan lingkungan yang meningkat akibat alih fungsi lahan, berkurangnya ruang terbuka hijau,… , dan genangan air yang berulang pada musim hujan. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan memperkenalkan revitalisasi infrastruktur hijau sebagai solusi inovatif untuk memperkuat ketahanan lingkungan di tingkat lingkungan permukiman. Metode yang digunakan meliputi tahap persiapan, koordinasi dengan aparat desa, sosialisasi partisipatif, demonstrasi praktis pembuatan lubang resapan biopori, sumur resapan, dan taman hujan, serta evaluasi melalui instrumen pretest-posttest. Kegiatan diikuti oleh 42 peserta yang terdiri dari perangkat desa, anggota karang taruna, dan ibu rumah tangga. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan skor pemahaman rata-rata peserta secara signifikan, dari 40% sebelum kegiatan menjadi 84% setelah kegiatan, serta peserta menunjukkan minat yang tinggi untuk menerapkan teknik tersebut secara mandiri. Kegiatan ini menyimpulkan bahwa intervensi infrastruktur hijau yang murah dan partisipatif dapat ditransfer secara efektif kepada masyarakat serta berkontribusi menurunkan risiko banjir sekaligus memulihkan fungsi ekologis di skala lingkungan permukiman. Pematang Johar, a rapidly developing village in Labuhan Deli Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, faces increasing environmental pressure from land-use conversion, reduced green open space, and recurrent waterlogging during the rainy season. This community service activity aimed to introduce green infrastructure revitalization as an innovative approach to strengthen local environmental resilience. The method consisted of preparation, coordination with village authorities, participatory outreach (sosialisasi), practical demonstration of biopore infiltration holes, recharge wells, and rain gardens, and evaluation through pretest-posttest instruments. The activity involved 42 participants consisting of village officials, youth organization members, and housewives. Results showed a substantial increase in participants' average understanding score, from 40% before the activity to 84% afterward, and participants expressed strong interest in applying the techniques independently. The activity concludes that low-cost, participatory green infrastructure interventions can be effectively transferred to communities and contribute to reducing flood risk while restoring ecological function at the neighborhood scale.

Community Empowerment in the Landscaping of Gardens around Karo Traditional Houses to Support Cultural Ecotourism in Lingga Village

Abstract: Lingga Village in Karo Regency, North Sumatra, is a cultural village that preserves the traditional architecture of the Karo people, particularly the Siwaluh Jabu traditional house, which reflects the community’s life philosophy,… philosophy, social order, and spirituality. The surrounding environment of these traditional houses remains poorly organized, with vacant land left unmanaged and declining awareness of cultural preservation, resulting in suboptimal utilization of the area’s aesthetic value, cultural function, and tourism potential. This community service program aims to arrange a cultural garden around the traditional houses while empowering the local community to manage the cultural landscape in a sustainable manner, with a focus on preserving cultural identity, improving environmental quality, and strengthening the local economy through the development of cultural tourism and agrotourism. The implementation method adopts a community-based participatory approach, carried out through several stages: site observation and mapping, focus group discussions, planning and designing the cultural garden, training and knowledge transfer, collective implementation of garden arrangement, as well as evaluation and documentation. The garden design integrates the orientation of the Siwaluh Jabu house, the cosmological meaning of space, ecological landscape principles, and the selection of local vegetation with symbolic, aesthetic, and economic value, organized into aesthetic, educational, and productive zones. The results of the program indicate the establishment of a well-arranged cultural garden rich in Karo cultural symbols, increased community capacity and participation, and the creation of a sustainable cultural landscape management model that functions as a “living laboratory” combining aesthetic, educational, economic, and spiritual roles. This model positions the community as the main actor and holds potential to be replicated in other cultural villages with similar characteristics.
