The Role of Competition Law in Regulating Corporate Conduct, Protecting Consumers and Enhancing Economic Efficiency

Bahrudin, Muhammad, Prabowo, Anang, Sujianto, Agus Eko
Abstract: This study aims to examine the role of competition law in regulating corporate conduct, protecting consumers, and enhancing economic efficiency in contemporary market economies. Amid increasing market concentration, digital… tal platform dominance, and the emergence of data-driven business models, competition law has become an essential regulatory instrument for ensuring fair competition, safeguarding consumer interests, and promoting sustainable economic development. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on the PRISMA 2020 framework. Relevant literature was systematically collected from six major academic databases, namely Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, Emerald Insight, and Taylor & Francis Online. The review process included identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and inclusion stages. A total of 78 peer-reviewed articles published between 2015 and 2025 were selected and analyzed using thematic synthesis techniques. The findings reveal that competition law performs four interconnected functions. First, it serves as a regulatory mechanism that shapes corporate behavior and prevents anticompetitive practices, including monopolization, cartel agreements, price-fixing, and abuse of dominant positions. Second, competition law enhances consumer welfare by promoting competitive prices, product quality, innovation, and consumer choice. Third, effective competition policy contributes to allocative, productive, and dynamic efficiency, thereby supporting long-term economic growth. Fourth, digital markets introduce new challenges associated with data concentration, platform dominance, network effects, and algorithmic pricing, requiring adaptive regulatory frameworks and strengthened institutional capacity. This study contributes to the literature by integrating Economic Efficiency Theory, Consumer Welfare Theory, Competition Policy Theory, and Regulatory Governance Theory into a comprehensive analytical framework that explains the relationship between competition law, corporate conduct regulation, consumer protection, and economic efficiency. The findings provide policy recommendations for competition authorities and governments, particularly in developing economies, regarding digital competition governance, institutional strengthening, cross-border enforcement cooperation, and data-driven market regulation.Unlike previous studies that focus on isolated dimensions of competition law, this research offers a holistic synthesis of legal, economic, consumer welfare, and governance perspectives. It further highlights how competition law can address emerging challenges in the digital economy while simultaneously promoting consumer protection and economic efficiency.

ESG Branding Strategies in B2B And B2C Markets: Evidence From Emerging Economies

Haeruddin, M. Ikhwan Maulana
Abstract: Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) branding has become increasingly important in strengthening stakeholder relationships and corporate legitimacy, particularly in emerging economies characterized by institutional… l uncertainty and diverse stakeholder expectations. However, limited studies have comparatively examined how ESG branding and communication strategies differ between business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) firms and how these differences affect relationship outcomes. This study aims to analyze the distinctions between B2B and B2C ESG communication strategies in emerging economies and their implications for stakeholder trust, loyalty, and long-term business relationships. This study employed a systematic literature review approach using evidence retrieved from the Elicit database integrating Semantic Scholar and OpenAlex sources. From an initial pool of 1,000 studies, 10 empirical articles published between 2020 and 2026 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using thematic synthesis. The findings reveal that B2B ESG strategies primarily emphasize governance structures, third-party ESG ratings, and verifiable sustainability metrics to strengthen interorganizational trust and reduce relational risk. In contrast, B2C ESG strategies rely more heavily on emotional storytelling, sustainability narratives, influencer engagement, and digital interaction mechanisms that enhance consumer identification, brand credibility, and loyalty. The study further demonstrates that ESG pillar salience is strongly shaped by institutional and cultural contexts rather than business model orientation alone. This study contributes to ESG and relationship marketing literature by developing a comparative framework explaining how ESG communication strategies shape stakeholder relationships across B2B and B2C environments in emerging economies.

What Drives Continuous Viewing of Short Form Drama? The Role of Viewing Motivation and Flow Experience

Azmi, Mufidatul, Muhaidir Ikram, Nidrah
Abstract: The rapid expansion of short-form video platforms has reshaped the way audiences engage with digital entertainment. Among these formats, short-form drama has emerged as a distinctive narrative genre characterized by episodic… odic storytelling within brief viewing durations. Despite its increasing popularity, empirical research explaining the psychological mechanisms underlying Continuous Viewing Intention in short-form drama remains limited. This study investigates the influence of Viewing Motivation on Flow Experience and Continuous Viewing Intention. In this study, Viewing Motivation is conceptualized as a higher-order construct comprising Performance Expectancy, Social Influence, Hedonic Motivation, Habit, Substitute Expectancy, and Aesthetic Motivation. Data were collected through an online survey involving 140 respondents in Makassar who actively consume short-form drama content. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that Viewing Motivation significantly influences both Flow Experience and Continuous Viewing Intention. Furthermore, Flow Experience significantly affects Continuous Viewing Intention and mediates the relationship between Viewing Motivation and Continuous Viewing Intention. These findings underscore the importance of motivational drivers and immersive viewing experiences in fostering sustained engagement with short-form drama content

Cost Structure, Land Productivity, and Price Efficiency IN Shallot Farmers’ Income in Brebes

Hazizah, Eva, Krisdiana, Agustina
Abstract: This study explored how cost structure, land productivity, and price efficiency shape the income of micro scale shallot farmers in Brebes Regency based on farmers' reported financial experiences and informants' financial… narratives. Using an exploratory qualitative approach, data were collected from five shallot farmers, one agricultural extension officer, and one farmer group leader through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed through thematic analysis supported by source and technique triangulation. The findings show that reported income is highly vulnerable to variable production costs, particularly labor, seed, and pesticides. Land productivity is closely related to land ownership status and farming scale, while price efficiency is constrained by farmers' weak bargaining position and dependence on intermediaries. Farmers apply adaptive strategies such as delaying sales, drying harvested shallots, and converting part of the harvest into seed stock. However, these strategies are limited by liquidity needs, storage capacity, product quality, and market uncertainty. The study concludes that improving farmers' income stability requires integrated cost control, asset productivity, price information access, post-harvest support, and stronger farmer institutions.

Competitive Saturation in Makassar’s Coffee Shop Industry: A Phenomenological Inquiry Into Business Actors’ Experiences

Putra, Muh Al Fatah Arief, Hardiyanti, Andi Aryani, Tama, Tuti Adi, Risnawati
Abstract: This study examines the rapid expansion of the coffee shop industry in Makassar City as a phenomenon that creates not only economic opportunities but also increasing competitive saturation. As coffee shops in Makassar have… ve developed beyond places of beverage consumption into urban social spaces linked to lifestyle, sociability, symbolic visibility, and identity formation, competition has become denser and more complex. The study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of how coffee shop owners and managers experience, interpret, and respond to this increasingly crowded market. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research employed in-depth semi-structured interviews with business actors involved in strategic and operational decision-making, supported by contextual observation and business-related documents. The findings reveal five main themes: market growth is experienced as both opportunity and pressure; similarity among coffee shops increases vulnerability and reduces perceived distinctiveness; entrepreneurs rely on continuous adaptation rather than fixed strategies; business sustainability is understood as stability, relevance, and survival rather than expansion alone; and competition is shaped not only by product and price, but also by ambience, visibility, symbolic value, and lifestyle alignment.

The Impact of SIAkad E-Service Quality and Campus Facilities on Institutional Image Through Student Satisfaction

Syah, Ibrahim, Riswan, Riswan, Mursalim, Hermawan, Endang
Abstract: The digital transformation in higher education requires universities to provide not only reliable technology-based academic services but also physical facilities that support the student learning experience. This study aims… ims to analyze the effect of the Academic Information System (SIAKAD) e-Service Quality and campus facilities on institutional image, with student satisfaction as an intervening variable. The study employed a quantitative approach with a causal associative design. Data were collected through a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire from 80 active students of STIMI-YAPMI Makassar selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using validity and reliability tests, path analysis, and the Sobel test to examine the mediating role. The results showed that e-Service Quality and physical facilities had a positive and significant effect on student satisfaction and institutional image. E-Service Quality had the most dominant influence on student satisfaction. Furthermore, student satisfaction was shown to mediate the effect of e-Service Quality on institutional image, but not the effect of physical facilities on institutional image. These results indicate that e-Service Quality shapes institutional image through student experience and satisfaction, while physical facilities act as a reputational symbol that directly influences image. This research provides theoretical contributions in the development of higher education service management models as well as practical implications for higher education managers in formulating strategies for improving service quality and strengthening the institution's image in a sustainable manner.

The Relationship Between Work Culture And Employee Performance: Mediation Of Job Satisfaction And Moderation Of Leadership In Bank BJB Syariah

Handayani, Tri Utami, Mukhsin, Moh.
Abstract: This study examines work culture, job satisfaction (mediator), and leadership (moderator) as predictors of employee performance at PT Bank BJB Syariah Serang Branch, where average KPI achievement stood at only 90.5% in 2024.… 024. A census survey of all 190 employees was analyzed using PLS-SEM via SmartPLS.The results show: (1) work culture is positively associated with employee performance (β = 0.512, p < .001); (2) work culture is positively associated with job satisfaction (β = 0.991, p < .001); (3) job satisfaction is positively associated with employee performance (β = 0.160, p < .001); (4) job satisfaction partially mediates the work culture–performance relationship (β = 0.159, p < .001); and (5) leadership significantly moderates the work culture–performance relationship with a buffering effect (p < .001). This study extends JD-R Theory to faith-based organizations by demonstrating that Islamic values reshape job resources: work culture becomes a dominant predictor of satisfaction, and leadership operates as a buffering moderator through substitution mechanisms. These findings highlight the strategic importance of strengthening Islamic work culture, effective leadership, and job satisfaction as key predictors of employee performance in Islamic banking.

Pratama, Muhammad Faried, Rachmawati, Tambunan, Rince
Abstract: The rapid development of digital financial technology has significantly transformed investment activities by providing easier access to financial markets through digital investment applications. This study aims to explore… e the perceptions and experiences of beginner investors in making investment decisions in the digital era. Using a qualitative research approach with a phenomenological perspective, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with beginner investors who actively use digital investment applications. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and themes related to investors’ experiences and decision-making processes. The findings reveal that investment decision-making among beginner investors is influenced by several interconnected factors, including the accessibility and usability of digital investment platforms, the influence of social media and online communities, the development of financial literacy, and psychological experiences related to investment gains and losses. Digital investment applications play a crucial role in lowering barriers to market participation by providing user-friendly interfaces and accessible financial information. However, reliance on social media as a source of investment information may also expose investors to misinformation and speculative investment behavior. In addition, emotional responses such as confidence, fear, and uncertainty often influence investment decisions among beginner investors. Overall, the study highlights that investment decision-making in the digital era is a multidimensional process shaped by technological accessibility, social influence, financial knowledge, and psychological factors. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of investor behavior in digital financial environments and emphasize the importance of financial education and responsible investment practices.

Rizky, Alifia Ainun, Kessi, Andi Muhammad Fara, Santy, Raeni Dwi
Abstract: The rapid development of digital technology and social media platforms has significantly transformed consumer purchasing behavior, particularly in relation to digital products. Social media has evolved beyond its traditional… onal role as a communication platform and now functions as an important environment where consumers discover, evaluate, and purchase products. This study aims to explore the psychological factors that influence consumer decision-making in purchasing digital products through social media platforms. A qualitative research approach was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of consumers' experiences and perspectives. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews with social media users who had purchased digital products based on information encountered on social media platforms. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and themes related to consumer psychology in digital purchasing behavior. The findings reveal that consumer decision-making in purchasing digital products is influenced by several interconnected psychological and social factors. Five major themes emerged from the analysis: social media as a discovery environment, cognitive evaluation of digital products, trust formation and credibility cues, psychological motivations for purchasing digital products, and social influence from peers, influencers, and online communities. The results indicate that social media plays a significant role not only in introducing digital products but also in shaping consumer perceptions, trust, and purchase intentions. Consumers actively interpret information obtained from social media, evaluate product credibility through reviews and recommendations, and rely on social interactions to reduce uncertainty before making purchase decisions. This study contributes to the understanding of consumer psychology in digital environments by highlighting how psychological motivations and social influences interact within social media platforms to shape digital purchasing decisions. The findings also provide practical insights for digital marketers and product creators to design more effective strategies that emphasize authenticity, trust-building, and community engagement in promoting digital products.
