A SOCIOLOGY OF LITERATURE STUDY ON RONGGENG DUKUH PARUK AND THE DONBRET-SINTREN TRADITION OF ERETAN: PATRIARCHAL HEGEMONY, SACREDNESS, AND CULTURAL COMMODIFICATION

Taiman, Taiman
Abstract: Traditional performing arts along the northern coast of Java often place female performers at the complex intersection of spiritual sacredness, patriarchal control, and modern economic commodification. This study aims to… analyze the social realities, gender power dynamics, and cultural transformations represented in Ahmad Tohari's novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk (RDP) in direct comparison with the empirical practices of Donbret and Sintren arts in Eretan, Indramayu. Utilizing a sociology of literature framework combined with feminist culture and political economy theories, this research investigates the persistence of animistic beliefs, mechanisms of patriarchal hegemony, and the erosion of sacredness due to commercialization. Data were collected through textual hermeneutics, in-depth ethnographic field observations, interviews with local cultural custodians, and socio-structural analytical methods. The findings reveal that while both the literary text and the living traditions share an ancestral lineage in animistic rituals where the female body functions as a sacred medium for ancestral spirits (indang), contemporary socio-economic pressures have significantly altered these structures. The sacred status of female performers is systematically degraded into an object of eroticism, saweran transactions, and male control. This paper emphasizes the vulnerability of traditional female-centered performing arts amidst societal transformation and commercialization.

“INDONESIA COULD NEVER”: VICARIOUS POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT AND THE DIGITAL SPECTRE OF COMPARISONS IN INDONESIAN NETIZENS’ DISCOURSE ON ZOHRAN MAMDANI

Akbar, Muhammad Rafly, Yasya, Wichitra
Abstract: This study examines how a non-diasporic public in the Global South engages with a foreign election in which it holds no vote, no residence, and no direct material stake. Rather than asking how Indonesian netizens represent… nt Zohran Mamdani, the first Muslim Mayor of New York City, it asks what talking about Mamdani does for these netizens as members of their own polity, and develops the concept of comparative civic imagination: the use of a foreign political figure as a discursive instrument for evaluating, criticising, and re-imagining one’s own democracy. The study applies qualitative Computer-Mediated Discourse Analysis (CMDA) to public Indonesian-language discourse about Mamdani on platform X between 1 November 2025 and 30 June 2026, drawing on a purposively constructed corpus of 213 units—134 citizen-account units as the analytical core and 79 media-account units as contextual triangulation—recoded by comparative function and affective register rather than by stance toward the figure. The findings show that Indonesian netizens engage Mamdani through a comparative architecture organised by the vernacular frame “Mamdani Indonesia” (45% of citizen units) and enacted through three repertoires: analogical personification, institutional benchmarking, and counterfactual transposition. The discourse is animated by civic despair—crystallised in the idiom “Indonesia could never”—which operates as a participatory rather than an apathetic affect, while a domestic value-compatibility filter of doctrinal, sectarian, and purity tests renders the admired model discursively non-transferable, closing a recursive loop theorised here as a digitally networked spectre of comparisons. The article shifts the analysis of transnational digital engagement away from cosmopolitan and diasporic assumptions toward the vicarious engagement of non-diasporic publics, re-theorises despair as a mode of civic engagement, and recovers Benedict Anderson’s spectre of comparisons for platform-era political communication in the Global South.

THE EFFECT OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT, CULTURE VALUE AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGANCE ON PERSONAL BRANDING WITH SELF-EFFICACY AS A VARIABLE MEDIATION IN STATE CIVIL APPARATUS (ASN) IN THE GOVERNMENT OF TEGAL CITY

Pratama, Dean Hadi, Yohana, Corry, Parimita, Widya
Abstract: This study aims to analyze the influence of Career Development, Culture Value, and Emotional Intelligence on Personal Branding with Self-Efficacy as a mediating variable in State Civil Apparatus (ASN) in Tegal City Government.… nment. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey method by distributing questionnaires to 360 ASN consisting of Civil Servants (PNS) and Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK). The sampling technique used proportionate stratified random sampling, while data analysis was carried out using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with the help of SmartPLS 4. The results showed that Career Development, Culture Value, and Emotional Intelligence had a positive and significant effect on Self-Efficacy. In addition, these three variables also have a positive and significant effect on Personal Branding. Self-Efficacy was proven to have a positive and significant effect on Personal Branding and was able to significantly mediate the influence of Career Development, Culture Value, and Emotional Intelligence on Personal Branding. The coefficient of determination value shows that the model is able to explain 70.1% of the variation in Self-Efficacy and 76.8% of the variation in Personal Branding. The findings of this study indicate that strengthening the career development system, internalizing organizational cultural values, and increasing emotional intelligence can increase the self-confidence of ASN which ultimately strengthens Personal Branding in carrying out tasks and public services. This study provides an empirical contribution to the development of public sector human resource management, particularly in efforts to improve the professionalism and image of the apparatus through strengthening internal organizational factors.

Determinants of Human Development in Indonesia: A Comparative Analysis of The Western and Eastern Regions

Rini, Puspa, Ridwan, Mochamad, Purmini, Purmini, Rospida, Lela
Abstract: This study examines the effects of health, education, economic, and infrastructure expenditures, economic growth, investment, and the Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) on the Human Development Index (HDI) in Indonesia.… a. It also compares the determinants of HDI between Western and Eastern Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach, the study applies panel data regression with the Common Effect Model and Ordinary Least Squares method. Secondary data from 2012–2021 were obtained from Statistics Indonesia, the Ministry of Finance, and other official institutions. The results show that all independent variables simultaneously have a significant effect on HDI. Partially, education expenditure, infrastructure expenditure, and investment have positive and significant effects, while health expenditure, economic expenditure, economic growth, and LFPR are statistically insignificant. Regional analysis reveals different determinants of HDI. In Western Indonesia, education expenditure, infrastructure expenditure, economic growth, and LFPR significantly affect HDI. In Eastern Indonesia, infrastructure expenditure, investment, and LFPR are significant determinants. These findings demonstrate that regional disparities in human development are associated with differences in economic capacity, infrastructure quality, investment distribution, connectivity, and development governance. Therefore, place-based development policies are required to improve the effectiveness and equity of human development, particularly in Eastern Indonesia.

Evaluating Cost Center Managers through Accountability Accounting at PT Mayora Indah Tbk

Sangkala, Masnawaty
Abstract: This study aims to evaluate cost-center managers through the implementation of accountability accounting at PT Mayora Indah Tbk. Accountability accounting is examined as a managerial control mechanism that links cost responsibility,… ponsibility, budgeting, cost realization, and performance evaluation within an organizational responsibility structure. This study applies a descriptive qualitative method using secondary data obtained from the company’s financial statements and related financial information. The analysis focuses on the extent to which accountability accounting supports the assessment of cost-center managers by identifying controllable costs, comparing budgeted and actual costs, and evaluating cost variances. The findings indicate that accountability accounting plays an important role in strengthening cost control and managerial performance assessment. Although the company demonstrated positive revenue performance, increased operating costs affected the achievement of operating profit and net profit. This condition shows that financial performance cannot be assessed only from revenue growth, but must also consider the effectiveness of cost management. Therefore, accountability accounting provides a more objective basis for evaluating cost-center managers, particularly in monitoring cost efficiency and responsibility-based performance. The novelty of this study lies in positioning accountability accounting not merely as a financial reporting practice, but as a practical evaluation framework for cost-center managerial performance in a publicly listed manufacturing company.

Do High Potential Employees Always Possess Emotional Intelligence? A Narrative Review of the Competency Based Model in Indonesian Multisector Organizations (2024–2025)

Setiawan, Anang
Abstract: This narrative review explores whether high-potential workers (HiPo) within Indonesian organizations across various sectors consistently exhibit elevated levels of emotional intelligence (EI), and it assesses the relevance… ce of the Competency Based Model proposed by Boyatzis in the identification and development of HiPos. The review compiles freely accessible scholarly articles from 2024 to 2025, with a focus on research from Indonesia and includes one primary benchmark study on high-potential individuals for comparison, as studies specific to Indonesian HiPo are scarce. Findings reveal that being classified as a HiPo does not necessarily correlate with having high EI. Research directly related to high potential employees indicates that cognitive-intrapersonal skills such as initiative, desire for learning, and the ability to think outside conventional limits are stronger indicators of high potential than emotional-interpersonal skills. Research from various Indonesian sectors, including manufacturing, energy, construction, and public services, suggests that while EI plays a significant role in enhancing employee productivity, work performance, job satisfaction, and effectiveness in management, its influence typically operates through mediating factors instead of serving as a direct predictor. Furthermore, talent management research in Indonesia shows that numerous organizations still depend on performance evaluations and fragmented methods instead of comprehensive competency frameworks. This review concludes that the Competency Based Model is relevant in Indonesian organizations across different sectors; however, it should be viewed as encompassing a range of competencies rather than a single attribute. While EI is valuable, it is not an essential or sufficient criterion for determining high-potential employees.
