The Influence Of Profitability, Leverage, And Company Size On Tax Avoidance Practices In Public Companies

Bakti, Ilham Teruna, Yuniarso, Yudi Budi, Estiningsih, Wening, Saripah
Abstract: This study investigates the relationship between profitability, leverage, and firm size and tax avoidance practices in publicly listed consumer sector firms during the 2020–2024 period. A quantitative approach was applied… ied using panel data regression analysis, with a sample of six companies selected through purposive sampling. Tax avoidance was measured using the Effective Tax Rate (ETR), while profitability, leverage, and firm size were proxied by Return on Assets (ROA), Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), and the natural logarithm of total assets, respectively. Based on model selection procedures, the Random Effect Model (REM) was identified as the most appropriate specification. The results indicate that, both individually and jointly, profitability, leverage, and firm size do not exhibit a statistically significant effect on tax avoidance. Additionally, the coefficient of determination suggests that the model explains only a limited proportion of the variation in tax avoidance behavior. These findings imply that tax avoidance is likely influenced by factors beyond the financial indicators examined, highlighting the need for future research to incorporate broader determinants, including governance and regulatory aspects.

The Influence of Free Shipping and Online Customer Reviews on the Shopee Platform on Purchasing Decisions of Students of the Faculty of Economics, Nias University

Zebua, Reyan Janefata, Telaumbanua, Aferiaman, Kakisina, Sophia Molinda, Zebua, Serniati
Abstract: This study investigates the role of acquisition premiums in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and their impact on shareholder wealth, focusing on five major Indian deals in pharmaceuticals, retail, banking, steel, and renewable… able energy sectors. Potential synergies often justify acquisition premiums ranging from approximately 15% to 40% above target companies’ market values. However, market responses suggest that such premiums may not consistently result in value creation for acquiring firms' shareholders. Empirical findings reveal mixed outcomes: Sun Pharma’s acquisition of Ranbaxy led to a 9.8% share price increase within five days, while Tata Steel’s high-premium acquisition of Bhushan Steel saw only a 1.7% gain. In contrast, deals like Reliance–Future Retail and Tata Power–Welspun Power showed minimal or negative returns, despite sizable premiums. These patterns indicate that premium size alone is not a reliable predictor of post-deal shareholder wealth creation. The study concludes that M&A success depends more on strategic fit, market timing, and sectoral dynamics than on the premium offered. This analysis contributes to the broader M&A discourse by offering evidence-based insights into how premium valuations can either maximise or dilute shareholder value, aiding investors, corporate strategists, and policy analysts in deal assessment.

Farasi, Wildan Syariah, Zebua, Serniati, Mendrofa, Martha Surya Dinata, Zalukhu, Yuterlin
Abstract: This research is motivated by the phenomenon of cafe business competition in Gunungsitoli City, which demands effective marketing strategies, particularly in the utilization of promotional mixes and business location selection.… ection. The purpose of the study is to analyze how promotional mixes and location aspects play a role in increasing sales at Murai Coffee Gunungsitoli. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The research informants consisted of the owner, employees, and customers of Murai Coffee. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that Murai Coffee has implemented promotional strategies such as simple advertising, sales promotions, personal selling, public relations, and direct marketing that gradually increase customer interest. Meanwhile, the location factor, although not located in the city center, still provides sales opportunities through a comfortable atmosphere and quality service. However, challenges are still found in the comfort aspect, such as noise from outside and hot room temperatures, so that improvements to supporting facilities are needed. This research is useful for Murai Coffee in designing more optimal promotional strategies and location arrangements, for Nias University as a contribution to the development of marketing science, and as a reference for future researchers who want to study marketing strategies in the culinary sector.

Indonesia's Social Enterprise: Policy Challenges and Support Needs

Sebastian Billy Anggara, Irma Tsuraya Choirinnida
Abstract: This research investigates the policy landscape surrounding social entrepreneurship in Indonesia, encompassing legal and regulatory frameworks, government initiatives, and institutional support for social enterprises. The… e study is crucial as it addresses an understudied area, aiming to inform policymakers, foster collaboration, stimulate economic development, and promote sustainable growth. The methodology involved qualitative interviews with eight social entrepreneurs across Indonesia. Collected data was analyzed using content analysis techniques, facilitated by the MAXQDA platform. Findings indicate that despite social entrepreneurship being an emerging field in Indonesia, there is a notable lack of effective policies and regulations. Six of eight respondents perceived inadequate current regulatory support, and half cited financial challenges as a significant issue. Conversely, seven respondents acknowledged existing government assistance, suggesting a willingness to support the sector. Based on these results, key recommendations for the government to foster a supportive ecosystem include developing non-overlapping policies, implementing substantive policy changes, promoting useful policies, simplifying bureaucracy, and engaging in direct dialogue with social entrepreneurs. The research concludes that addressing these areas can empower social entrepreneurs to create lasting social impact. This study uniquely fills a gap by directly engaging social entrepreneurs, though future research should include government representatives for broader perspectives.

Silmi, Kevin Ghulaman, Budi Eko, Budi Eko Soetjipto, Ludi Wishnu, Ludi Wishnu Wardhana
Abstract: Multi-sensory brand experience has emerged as a crucial factor in modern marketing, significantly influencing customer satisfaction, brand perception, and loyalty. Despite its increasing importance, research in this area… remains fragmented, with theoretical integration and empirical validation gaps. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database to map the evolution of research on multi-sensory brand experiences and their impact on customer satisfaction. From an initial dataset of 203 documents, a rigorous selection process resulted in 41 relevant articles for in-depth analysis. Using VOS viewer, the study visualizes research networks, inter-topic relationships, and emerging trends, revealing a 47% increase in publication volume from 2012 to 2024. Findings indicate that customer satisfaction, consumer behaviour, and sales are dominant themes, with sentiment analysis and digital technology (AI, AR) gaining traction in recent years. However, significant gaps remain, particularly in experimental studies quantifying the long-term impact of multi-sensory experiences on customer loyalty and cross-industry comparisons of multi-sensory branding effectiveness. The novelty of this study lies in its combined bibliometric and systematic approach, which identifies critical research trends, theoretical gaps, and emerging digital strategies in multi-sensory marketing. This study contributes to the academic discourse by comprehensively synthesizing research trends and proposing future research directions in technology-driven branding strategies and consumer engagement.
