Newsroom Convergence and Local Media Economic Sustainability Strategy

Sagita, Rinal, Nasution, Belli, Firdaus, Muhammad
Abstract: This study aims to analyze newsroom convergence processes and newsroom models implemented by Tribun Pekanbaru and Riau Pos, while also examining how newsroom convergence is utilized as an economic strategy to maintain the… e sustainability of local media businesses amid digital disruption. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies involving newsroom managers, editors, and journalists from both media organizations. The findings indicate that Tribun Pekanbaru and Riau Pos have adopted different newsroom convergence strategies. Tribun Pekanbaru has implemented an integrated newsroom model that combines Cross Media Newsroom and Integrated Media Newsroom approaches, emphasizing digital-first production and multi-platform content distribution. Meanwhile, Riau Pos continues to maintain a separated newsroom model between print and digital divisions, reflecting a gradual adaptation process toward digital transformation. The study further reveals that these differences are influenced not only by technological factors and organizational culture but also by economic considerations. Tribun Pekanbaru develops an integrated newsroom to improve production efficiency and expand digital content monetization, while Riau Pos maintains separated newsrooms because print media remains a significant source of company revenue. This study concludes that newsroom convergence has evolved beyond a technological transformation into an economic adaptation strategy for local media organizations. The findings suggest that newsroom convergence enables media companies to improve operational efficiency, broaden audience reach, optimize resource utilization, and strengthen business sustainability in an increasingly competitive digital environment.

Wati, Karlina, Sutrisno, Reza, Rahayu, Vitria Puri
Abstract: This study aims to analyze the economic satisfaction of street vendors after the development of Teras Samarinda in Samarinda City based on indicators of sales volume, business profit, and financial goal attainment. This… study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using primary data obtained through in-depth interviews with five street vendors who were selected purposively based on their experience of operating businesses both before and after the development of Teras Samarinda. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. To enhance data credibility, time triangulation was applied through data collection conducted at different times and days. The findings indicate that economic satisfaction has not been optimally achieved among the interviewed vendors, as reflected in declining sales volume, reduced customer numbers, and unstable daily income compared to conditions before the development. Most vendors' profits were only sufficient to cover operational expenses, causing financial goals such as savings, capital growth, and business expansion to remain largely unmet. The study concludes that economic satisfaction tended to be low among the interviewed vendors, although they continue maintaining their businesses as an adaptation strategy to survive in a changing business environment

The research problem focuses on the low realization of tax revenue compared to the set target… and the suboptimal contribution of the swallow nest tax to PAD. The objective of this study is to analyze the level of effectiveness of the swallow nest tax and the factors influencing it. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using an elasticity ratio approach and an interactive analysis model. The results show that the swallow nest tax has not been effective in increasing PAD, with an average elasticity value of -0.03% (inelastic) during the 2022–2024 period. The realization of tax revenue is still far below the established target. This condition is influenced by low taxpayer awareness, suboptimal business reporting, limited supervision, and unstable harvest yields. As a result, the tax effectiveness remains low and has not provided a significant contribution to PAD.

Quantitative analysis is carried out by measuring the formal compliance ratio based on the number of taxpayers who pay on time compared to the number of registered taxpayers, while qualitative analysis is conducted through indicators of awareness, compliance with due dates, compliance with regulations, willingness to pay, and views on Samsat services. The results of the study indicate that the level of taxpayer compliance is relatively high, but it shows a tendency to decrease from year to year. The decrease is influenced by the increasing number of registered vehicles that is not matched by an increase in awareness, the economic factors of the community, and delays in payment due to other priority needs. Service innovations such as mobile services and digital convenience contribute positively, but have not fully encouraged optimal compliance. This study confirms that improving compliance requires continuous education strategies, strengthening public services, and consistent supervision

Cost Structure, Land Productivity, and Price Efficiency IN Shallot Farmers’ Income in Brebes

Hazizah, Eva, Krisdiana, Agustina
Abstract: This study explored how cost structure, land productivity, and price efficiency shape the income of micro scale shallot farmers in Brebes Regency based on farmers' reported financial experiences and informants' financial… narratives. Using an exploratory qualitative approach, data were collected from five shallot farmers, one agricultural extension officer, and one farmer group leader through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed through thematic analysis supported by source and technique triangulation. The findings show that reported income is highly vulnerable to variable production costs, particularly labor, seed, and pesticides. Land productivity is closely related to land ownership status and farming scale, while price efficiency is constrained by farmers' weak bargaining position and dependence on intermediaries. Farmers apply adaptive strategies such as delaying sales, drying harvested shallots, and converting part of the harvest into seed stock. However, these strategies are limited by liquidity needs, storage capacity, product quality, and market uncertainty. The study concludes that improving farmers' income stability requires integrated cost control, asset productivity, price information access, post-harvest support, and stronger farmer institutions.
