Consumer Trust In Influencer-Based Digital Marketing: A Qualitative Study Among Beauty Product Consumers In Makassar City

Riu, Isma Azis, Radjab, Irsan, Arif, Hery Maulana, Haeruddin, M. Ilham Wardhana, Aswar, Nurul Fadilah
Abstract: Influencer marketing has emerged as a dominant strategy within the digital marketing landscape, particularly in the Indonesian beauty industry. This study investigates how consumers in Makassar City develop and sustain trust… rust in influencer-based marketing content on social media platforms. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 purposively selected participants who actively consume beauty content on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis encompassing open coding, axial coding, and selective coding procedures. The findings reveal five core themes: (1) authenticity as the primary driver of trust formation; (2) the negative impact of excessive commercialization on perceived credibility; (3) the role of influencer expertise and product knowledge in legitimizing recommendations; (4) parasocial relationships as amplifiers of emotional attachment and brand loyalty; and (5) consumer skepticism as an emerging critical evaluation strategy. The study demonstrates that trust remains the central mediating variable linking influencer characteristics to purchase intentions. Consumers exhibit nuanced evaluation behaviors, distinguishing between genuine advocacy and sponsored content. The research contributes theoretically by integrating Source Credibility Theory, Parasocial Interaction Theory, and the Trust-Commitment Theory within the influencer marketing context. Managerially, the findings suggest that brands should prioritize authentic, transparent, and expertise-driven influencer collaborations rather than high-volume promotional campaigns.

Resource Based Business Resilience The Moderating Role Of Akhlakul Karimah In The Ar Rahman Human Being Model

Achmad, Abdurrahman
Abstract: This study examines the Ar Rahman Human Being (ARHB) Model as an integrative framework of resource-based business resilience by incorporating akhlakul karimah as moral capital functioning as an internal governance mechanism.… ism. The study addresses the limitation of the resource-based view (RBV), which tends to emphasize resource capacity without adequately considering the normative dimension guiding its utilization. A contingency model is proposed that positions internal moral quality as a conditioning factor for the effectiveness of strategic resources in enhancing business resilience. Using an explanatory quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 250 micro and small enterprise (MSE) owners in Makassar City. Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) was employed to analyze the direct effects of expertise, education and training, physical capacity, and capital on business resilience, as well as the moderating role of akhlakul karimah in these relationships. The results indicate that expertise, education and training, physical capacity, and capital positively influence business resilience. Furthermore, akhlakul karimah strengthens the relationship between strategic resources and business resilience, suggesting that the effectiveness of transforming technical capacities into business resilience is contingent upon the entrepreneur’s internal moral quality. These findings extend resource-based business resilience discourse by integrating moral capital as an internal governance mechanism.

Beyond The Hype: a Real World Evaluation of Blockchain's Role in Democratizing Agri Food Systems

Dzreke, Simon Suwanzy
Abstract: Blockchain technology is touted for democratizing supply chains, but 30–40% of smallholder farmers are excluded from fair market participation due to information gaps and power imbalances. The first complete empirical examination… examination of blockchain's capacity to empower disadvantaged farmers in Global South agri-food systems. The paper examines 15 large-scale implementations, including Kenyan coffee cooperatives and Indian dairy collectives, using a rigorous mixed-methods methodology. Technical scalability in resource-limited situations, governance structures that promote meaningful multi-stakeholder engagement, and quantifiable inclusion results for small-scale farmers are thoroughly examined. Comparative case study, agent-based adoption modeling, and quasi-experimental effect evaluation by Propensity Score matching reveal that blockchain's potential is not automatic nor inherent in eight nations. Techno-institutional synergy, not technological complexity, improves democracy, the research shows. Hybrid governance systems with farmer-controlled validator nodes and tokenized decision-making rights enhanced smallholder involvement by 58% and premium retention by 78% over corporate-controlled systems. However, technologically sophisticated deployments without institutional expertise frequently increase power concentration and exclusion. The blockchain viability index helps identify optimal deployment conditions for different commodities, empirical evidence challenges the idea that decentralization automatically promotes inclusion, and the inclusion-by-design framework helps policymakers embed equitable principles into decentralized agri-tech from the start. This study shows food system digitization practitioners and scholars that genuine democratization occurs when technology drives institutional transformation.
